First off......Shameless Larue Tactical plug!

Next, my fat ass and the SOCOM ......was out looking for javelina.....and filling feeders.

The Ocatilla's are blooming which i was told it means cold or cooler weather is approaching.

Now some awesome mountain pics

More ocatilla's

My fat ass again

Had a great time....filling all the dam feeders we have and water tanks. Javelina must have known i brought the heavy hurt and stayed away. Past that the scenery gets me everytime!
Enjoy

I just can't get over the fact that you are free to wander around with a rifle and an pistol on you and not be worried about getting the law on your ass, or was that private property?

Still, in NZ, you are not permitted to have a pistol on you unless you are on an approved pistol range. can't legally shoot a pistol on your own land.

As I grow increasingly cynical about the apparent idiocy of this once great country, I read something like this and can't help but feel a small rekindling of hope.

My how we've fallen, but at least we aren't completely laid out on our ass.

This sounds like a bad place to live...unless you got sheep.

Sheep are good company.

We don't always agree, but when we do, it's something good.

I own 40 acres just south of Van horn....only been there once.

looks a lot like that.

Great pictures. Nice to see Texas pictures without fire in them.

You need a horse, a hat and a single action revolver on your hip.
Link Posted: 10/3/2011 6:20:41 AM EST
I don't get to do this stuff in MA

What happens if the police drive by and see you? Would they give you sht?

Those ocotillos are awesome. I brought some smaller ones (about 3") back 4 years ago, and they've grown about an inch. The ones in your pic are probably older than you. Mine seem to put on leaves with rainfall.

Nice hand grenade ya got there.

That looks like "No Time for Old Men" country. Seen Chigur lately? Kinda gives you the shivers doesn't it.

Cops come by and give you shit?

What cops?

I was thinking "Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" country.

Can you do anything with a Javelina besides shoot them?

Just about everyone there (other than the hippies) carry some sort of boom stick and no the cops dont care.....game wardens that is. They say you can eat javelina.......some do! Im not! They are nasty bastards! We each blast our 2 a year for getting near the feeders.....because they run the deer off!

Like anything else, I have no doubt their flavor is influenced by their diet, the butchering, and the cook. I have eaten some that tasted fine - but they were finished on corn, trapped, and well slaughtered.

In west Texas, I guess you could play games with them. Last time I was there I kept some rocks handy so they would leave my feeder alone and stop scaring the deer. Honestly could have kicked them they were so damn arrogant.

I am not sure of Texas law concerning javalina. I would suspect it is not entirely legal to pen them and finish them on corn . I never asked if they were trapped before or after being corn fed.

It's crazy to think that's the same state I am in right now except I'm covered in Pine trees, lakes and swamps....

Gotta love Texas. It goes on forever.

I'm gonna retire in Texas one day on a nice big piece of land like that. That is a luxury I wish I had now.

Im seriously considering a small invite of arfcom members for a gathering out there around january / february time frame. I have been slowly putting it together and will post it when i get the plan together. Kinda wanting to do it for those who have never or would never have an oportunity to see or roam around the desert west Tx region. If it goes well......will do it every year.
