The report does not mention anything about deaths, but I think most of the deaths were during the initial takeover when some of the parents tried to prevent it.

Over here they are reporting about 30 kids made it out this morning. They said they still don't know how many are inside the school but they did kill 5 of the terrorist.

I'm watching Russian News at the moment… a Government spokesman has just said… "these people are terrorists, they must all be killed… they are dirty terrorists" No compromise there then! |

Russian News are reporting 300 injured, including 200 children, some 200 of the worst injured are being airlifted to Moscow to the best Military Hospitals. 13 terrorist are holed up in a house near the school and surrounded. 2 female terrorists undressed and escaped with the mothers and children… no reports on fatalities yet, situation is very fluid at the moment. Between 600-1000 hostages are now believed to have been in the building.
Children in the initial wave of escapees said they had been forced to drink urine such was the lack of water inside the school. Andy |

I just watched CNN report that apparently there was some unexpected explosion, and that a gunfight suddenly started, and the Russian commander, seeing he had lost control of the situation, decided to initiate a full engagement.

The stories I have seen say that the heat inside the building was causing people to strip. This sounds likely. Whatever the cause, when I turned on CNN at 5:30 this morning I was only half awake and remembered thinking: Geez....those look like a bunch of naked teenagers..... HOLY CRAP, THOSE ARE NAKED TEENAGERS! WHAT IN THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE??? Only then did I realize it was the Russian situation and people fleeing. I guess if I was a kid and had just been trapped with a bunch of homicidal maniacs, I wouldn't care about running out of there sans trou either.... |

The talking heads are commenting on how incompetent the Russian military is. I'm glad the Russians are giving no quarter. I know they don't have the finesse of Western Spec Ops, but there is an opportunity here to support them and offer constructive critcism.
A united front against Islamic based terrorism would leverage capabilities from both our and Russias militaries. |

I officially declare the Russians to be a bunch of badasses! Yesterday everyone thought that the kids inside that school were dead if the Russians tried to raid it. Today, we hear of very low casualties and a bunch of terrorists who ran like the cowards that they are!

Uh, the cops at Columbine didn't do a very good job, either.
And hey, Russia has one of the most corrupt governments on the planet. If they don't want stuff like this to continue happening, they need to clean up their act. Any military solution is only going to encourage more such crimes. And please, if targeting children really bothers you so much, then do me a favor and don't be so gung-ho about our own nation's foreign policies, which include an awful lot of the same thing--dead kids, thousands of them. |

Moving along... I know that some folks on here listen to Michael Savage, but what he said bears repeating. Why is it that the media is so afraid of calling these terrorists "Islamic" or "Muslim"? I have read everything from "rebels" to "separatists" applied to these people. Could it be because the media does not want to remind us that we are at war? Could it be that if people WERE reminded of this fact they would have to come to the logical conclusion that we need a president that is willing to fight terrorism, i.e. President Bush? Also thelibertarian this question is for you. Are you saying that Russians deserve this treatment by the terrorists because they have a corrupt government? And tell me this: When has it ever been U.S. military SOP to specifically target children? Look, appeasement does not work on an opponent who has unlimited goals. The way I see it, everyone in that school was considered dead as soon as the terrorists took over. Anyone that made it out alive is a bonus. Anyone that died must be avenged by killing more terrorsits. Our nation has a policy of not negotiating with terrorists, and I support that policy 100%. If this had happened in Michigan instead of Russia, I would support the same course of action. If I were held hostage, I would not want my country to compromise our policies on terror to save my life. I can say this because I know that every compromise would only lead to more terror. All I'm saying is that the Russians did the right thing, and could have gone alot worse. |
