U.S. House demands sounds from 'quiet' cars David Shepardson / Detroit News Washington Bureau http://detnews.com/article/20101216/AUTO01/12160445/U.S.-House-demands-sounds-from-‘quiet’-cars#ixzz18LIijSbU Washington— The House voted 379-30 today to require federal safety regulators 18 months to set minimum sound levels from quiet electric and hybrid vehicles - a move that will help warn blind pedestrians. The Association of International Automobile Manufacturers praised the measure. "We look forward to working with the Department of Transportation to develop a workable and effective noise standard for quiet vehicles," the group said. |

Please, can someone direct me to specific part of your constitution that
requires the government mandate "minimum sound levels" for horseless carriages? How many deaf pedestrians have been run over by "quiet" cars? 1, maybe? Un-fucking-believable. |

We have deer whistles already. Now we need deaf whistles? Unbelievable.

Just tape baseball cards to the rims. That's what all the cool kids are doing.

I believe that here in GA there is still a law on the books that requires the operator of a horseless carriage to fire a pistol into the air before crossing an intersection of two roads. There is also a law that requires all able bodied men to carry a rifle with them to church services. |

You know how a train sounds maybe the electric cars should be required to make a sound with a similar rhythm. I think they should go… “fuckobamafuckobamafuckobamafuckobamafuckobamafuckobama”
Just a thought. |

I'm all for equal stuff to all, but so much is spent on a segment of the population that probably stays home, has a companion/friend, or a dog to help. I see brail on a restroom sign, but how in the hell do blind people even know the direction to get to a building, let alone find a restroom sign with brail that is 1/2inch tall. How many actually know brail? |

anyone have the list of the 30 that voted against it, so we can give them an ataboy?

Ooops seen its already been posted above
forgot this one http://www.asha.org/News/Advocacy/2010/Congress-Passes-Quiet-Commercials-Bill/ On December 2, 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed S.2847, the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act (CALM). The bill requires the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) to develop regulations that will end the practice of broadcasters increasing the volume of television advertisements as a means of getting the consumers' attention. The bill has already passed in the Senate, and now goes to the White House to be signed into law by President Obama. |

Then I looked it up and realized that the bill makes it so that they have to comply with the equal decibel level requirements in 2 years. Oh well, now I'm right back to 'Fuck Obama!' |

I just looked too. I was just watching Thursday Night Football and my fiance was sleeping in the same room, and I had it a decent level so I could hear good and sure enough a Panasonic commercial comes on and I didn't get to the remote in time and woke up my fiance. That commercial made me turn the volume down 6 levels on my tv. |

It covers 99.99% of all activity within the country. The interstate commerce clause was intended to prevent states from participating in commerce wars. The power was given to the federal government to pass laws that prevented New York from putting a tariff on goods from Maine, for example. It was not intended to give the federal government the authority to regulate anything that affects commerce in another state. |

What power does Congress have?
Why absolute power of its comatose electorate. They prove it every time they re-elect one of those scoundrels to office. |
|
Yeah, we all know the parliamentary system is so much better, eh?
|
|
My feelings on this are mixed.
Do I think the federal government should be doing this at all? No. Am I glad the legislature is enacting law rather than bureaucrats implementing law through administrative rulings (e.g. the EPA)? Yes. |
