A young Army Medic from our town was killed by an IED 2 days after Christmas. The Westboro Baptist Church came to picket. In honor of this fallen soldier thousands of people came to honor this young man for his service and shield the family from the WBC. I brought my children and explained the many reasons we were there holding American flags.

It was a sad but inspiring funeral.

Here is a news article.

Patriot Guard giving instructions on protocol.

Downtown Simpsonville an hour before the funeral.

One of two waves of Patriot Guards and other riding. I have never seen anything like it. 15-20 minutes of bikes.

The family arriving at the church. A large patriot guard and police escort.

Main Street a good mile from the church. People lined the road for I'm not sure how long. I will be interested to see the aerial footage from the news helicopter.

The funeral procession on the way to the cemetary.

RIP Justin.

I'm sure he would have been floored by the turnout.

I really don't know what to post in these threads.

I feel so sorry for the serviceman and his family.

And yes, it did suddenly get dusty here.

Whew! It's great to see a massive turnout of solid, good hearted folks to see PFC Whitmire to his final resting place, and to place themselves between his family and the WBC scumbags.

It occurs to me that Reverend Phelps and his ilk only serve to pull communities together around the families of the fallen, that if their cause is to show that the WBC god has abandoned America, at least Americans haven't entirely abandoned what makes us exceptional.

Rest in peace, PFC Whitmire. You certainly earned it.

THIS is the way to work around the WBC if you choose to have a public procession. Accepting they have the right to be there, and simply ignoring them/blocking them from view. Very little attention given.

Every time I catch one of the Patriot guards at a convenience store I pay for them to fill up their motorcycle.

I've lived in this town for almost 13 years and have never seen the city ban together like this.

I hate those Westoboro bastards. They need to grow some balls and picket some live soldiers, see how that works out for them.

RIP Soldier, your watch is done.

Small towns are amazing. I went to a funeral and memorial service this summer in Douglas, WY, population of roughly 5,000 people. 8,000 folks showed up. WBC didn't, good thing for them.

May God Bless and Keep America!
