We know that jewish moms like to feed their kids a lot, and want their daughters to marry a doctor, but there's one thing I've always wondered about their beliefs.  They are still looking for a messiah but I never hear them say anything about it.

What are the characteristics of the messiah they are looking for?

According to them, where will he be born (i.e. at Jerusalem or Egypt or somewhere else)?  Will he be born or just appear?  What do they expect him to do?  Do they expect the upcoming messiah to save everyone from death, hell, or both?

They seem to avoid the messiah issue because of the whole Jesus issue, but the fact remains that they're still looking for a messiah and I'm real curious as to what exactly they're looking for.

I don't know any jews to ask, so of course, I ask arfcom

yeah it is weird, kinda like they swept it under the rug or whatnot.

seems like it would be a BFD to find him kinda like the Dalai-Lama, the one where they go around after he dies and find his reincarnation.

Is this not a valid question?

OP, I thought it was supposed to be whoever got the third temple built.  I may be wrong.

Different sects of judaism view the temple issue differently too.  Some consider the temple as being within the person, rather than a structure yet to be built.

No, the messiah was FDR who never died.  Jews are still voting for him today.

not a jew, but i will note that the use of term 'messiah' (or mashiach) in judaism is far, far different that that of christianity.  there is a list of criteria for jewish messiah-hood, and a number of people have already met them.

i'll let the jew crew explain if they want.

Interesting.  I knew they believed a temple would be built in Jerusalem, but I hadn't heard it had anything to do with the messiah.

They are still waiting for a messiah.
They still set a place for IsaiahElijah, in the Seder meal, because he will precede the coming of the Messiah.

Read the Book of John (or Mark or Mathew). Pay attention to John 2:19

The Bible really is a great read.

Dude died from less than five puncture wounds and a long stretch in the sun, he obviously wasn't immortal deity material.  He didn't even make the demigod bracket.

Ever since the fall of man, God has been trying to reconcile with humanity. He wants to deliver us from our own sin through his grace if we will only follow him and trust in him.

I don't think Jesus was ever promoted as a secular worldly king and then to godhood like say Augustus was. The 'King of the Jews' thing the Romans hanged on the cross was mocking.
