I have to swing power over to a new pole (meter and disconnect). Contractors set the new pole that will be served by the secondary drop nearest a utility pole that has a small capacitor bank mounted on it. My question is, will the POCO hang a transformer on a pole that has other equipment already on it? The power company is out for the holidays and I would like to know if the customer pole should be moved closer to a "naked " utility pole.

Not enough information.

What is the height of the cap bank on utility pole.

What is the height of the neutral line.

Is there more than 1 set of primary lines on the  utility pole with the cap bank.

What is the over all height and class size of the  utility pole with the cap bank.

What size is the proposed transformer and secondary line for your  needs.

How far away is your meter form the pole with primary.

How close to the road is the utility pole with the cap bank.

Is there any down guys already on the utility pole with the cap bank.

Is there any phone/cable lines on the utility pole with the cap bank.

At what angle, direction, and distance is your new pole from the  utility pole with the cap bank.

Answer is maybe.

As above stated too many variables from power company to know. Usually power company tells us where and gives us a meter spot. Since pole and lines are moving, I am not sure.

Gotta be an Electrical Engineer.

My FIL and BIL are both EE's. Some of the conversations we have are real exciting!

I'm a hundred miles from it right now, so I'll do the best I can.....

200 amp service, utility pole is at least 40' high. Cap bank mounted right underneath bottom crossarm. Neutral at least 25' up. Customer  pole no more than 50' from utility, straight shot, no guy should be needed.

ETA, single phase service, of course. Pole carries 3 phase

My experience is that all power companies are different in their requirements and procedures. In the end, it often comes down to whoever is making the final decision and what ever they feel like doing that day.

Often the information get from the office is contradicted in the field, or what they tell you in the field is contradicted in the office. There often seems to be no rhyme or reason why.

The only way to find out what you will need is to ask, and then get it in writing before you proceed with anything.

This is one of those deals where all parties involved have been dragging their feet for the last several months and now all of the sudden, it has to be hooked up yesterday

In my area I don't think they would hang a transformer on that pole. They would probably hang it on the next pole down and run the secondary and neutral wire back to the pole with the cap bank then to your service pole.

I had new service put in for a house a couple of months ago.  The guy who checks and plans the install came out and he wrote it up.  When the install crew came out they said he was full of shit and installed it a different way. Good luck.

I deal with this stuff all the time for the railroad and we seldom have any trouble. I'm just wondering about this particular situation because they are ready to start digging in cable from the meter pole to the signal bungalow.

Buried secondary really ain't that bad. PVC and aluminum wire are cheap.

Well, they could have set the pole at a more ideal location, except there were too many underground utilities where they wanted it, so they chose what they thought was the next best spot, where it's at now. Contracting company is pissed because they have their trencher sitting there doing nothing because I won't let them bury the cable run yet. Oh well.

POCO engineer called and said they are going to move the capacitor bank to another pole and go ahead and hang the can on the above mentioned pole.
