Just got this new computer with Windows XP Pro.  A little different than 98SE.  What is all these "services" that show in the services tab on msconfig.  Know all about the startup programs but are the services things that start up also when the computer boots up?  And how do you know which ones are not needed?

Services are core apps(sort of) that all combined make WinXP. There are plenty you don't have to run and if you google something like removable services you should find about a thousand(s) sites listing uneeded services. WinXP is quite the bloated OS.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, ByteTheBullet.  Will try doing a search on that and see what I come up with.

Thanks.  I like this site better.  Pretty much the same info as the other but better format and easier to read.  Now to try some of these changes.
