If you mount the handset to your belt/vest, can you attach an earpiece and throat-mic to it? Or does a throat-mic require a different kind of radio?

Like one of these:

You can probably find a throat mic to work with that.  Google it.

I know you can buy a remote speaker / mic for it, but dunno about a throat mic.

Google is your friend.

Vertex is Yaesu's commercial brand.  Just get the correct pin type.

But they don't make throat mics or vest mounts for the FT1000D.

I dunno about the mic options...

But the Yaesu FT-60-R is a rugged radio... It has taken some pretty impressive drops, and rainy weather.

it's not the radio it's the throat mic. i have never heard ANY consumer grade throat mics that didn't sound like complete shit on the air.

ANY radio with vox capability will ""work" with them. they usually also come with a ptt switch for non vox operation as well.

Vox capability?

This is true.  Throat mics make everyone sound like Charlie Browns teacher.

For good alternatives you can check here:

I've got one of them for my Yaesu and it works great.  Specifically it's this one:

I wish they would.  That's an undeveloped market.

i am going on a limb here and guessing you don't have the required license to use that radio yet.

That is exactly what I was about to post.

My Kenwood TH-F6A is supposed to. I has a two plug type mike and will TX on Vox. Adjust the vox setting and you are GTG.
