Check out the Steyr Mannlicher website for the latest news. Apparently they've found a new site and plan to be up and running by 2004. "STEYR MANNLICHER MOVES Exactly one year ago, the entire lot of shares of Steyr Mannlicher AG was taken over by Cura Investholding GmbH. This transaction also included the company?s real estate in Steyr which now will be acquired by the Oberösterreichische Technologie- und Marketinggesellschaft mbH. The corporate strategy requires a concentration of the production capacities in order to cope with the realization of considerable rationalization potential. Now a corresponding plot could be purchased from the municipality Steyr where a modern competence centre for bolt action rifles will be constructed. Respective planning is already in progress, with the start of building scheduled for the beginning of 2003. The entire company will completely be moved until June 2004. Steyr Mannlicher products stand worldwide for accuracy and highest quality. In addition to the mentioned investment, future steps will therefore be set in view of the development of new products. At the Steyr location one will concentrate in future on the production of hunting firearms. The decision on the future production site for the authority firearm program strongly depends on the order structure in this segment. Worldwide a local manufacturing is required for authority orders. Steyr Mannlicher is already following this trend with licensed manufacturing in Malaysia and Australia. Negotiations for further manufacturing under licence are pending. Steyr, June 25, 2002" A few months ago I did a search for "Steyr Mannlicher BMW" and found an article that laid out the story. Apparently BMW bought the land from a bank around June of 2001 and gave whoever bought the Steyr plant until the end of 2001 to move out. 6/15/01 GSI, INC. CLARIFIES COMPANY POSITION ON IMPENDING SALE OF STEYR MANNLICHER Trussville, AL -- Over the past several months there have been many rumors surrounding the sale of Steyr Mannlicher GmbH of Austria and its effect on the importation and availability of the manufacturer's firearms in the U.S. In light of this, GSI Inc., the U.S. importer of Steyr firearms, would like to take this opportunity to clarify their position in the matter. It should be noted that Steyr Mannlicher has been for sale by Creditenstalt Bank of Austria, the owner of Steyr Mannlicher, for approximately one year. It has been reported in the Austrian press that Creditenstalt Bank has sold the land on which the Steyr Mannlicher factory is located to automotive manufacturer BMW for expansion purposes. Any future owner of Steyr Mannlicher will be required to vacate the premises by the end of the year 2001. According to that news report, given the logistics and time necessary to implement such a relocation of the factory's equipment and staff, it seems inevitable that production would be interrupted for what could be months. At the current time, GSI, Inc. has no scheduled shipments for any Steyr Mannlicher rifles or handguns (of any type), and we do not anticipate receiving any further deliveries of these firearms. Consequently, any future orders for Steyr Mannlicher firearms will be limited to our current inventories, which are already low in particular categories.

Steyr was bought out and is back in production...currently RWS Dynamite Nobel are the new importers...they have been having problems.. Steyr doesnt seem to be very interested in the US market anymore and isnt really interested in what American shooters are asking for...imo If you have any questions regarding Steyrs current state of affairs Jon Schaeffer is a pretty good guy to ask.....
