I just got issued an '07 black Crown Vic and want to keep it looking decent.  What's a good wax that won't leave swirl marks on a black vehicle when using a random orbital buffer?  Is Zymol okay?  I don't want to give it a test run and wind up screwing-up the finish.  Thanks.

Use Meguiars products and you will be fine.  If you do get swirls, Meguiars polish will fill them.  Quality pro-grade detailing sprays will also hide swirls.  If you use a good wax, you won't need a buffer.  Buffer=bad juju.

I was going to use the buffer to conserve time.  I figured that I could run around the car quickly every other month with the buffer - put on a quick coat of wax and then clean it off.  I was hoping that I won't have to hand polish the S.O.B.  I've always stayed away from darker cars due to the increase in work that is required to make them look nice.

Order all of your products from Griots Garage.  My father has a 98 Porsche Boxster in black that looks like a damned mirror after he's done with it.

I have been using this stuff for years and I love it.  You can apply it in the sun or shade and it drys real fast.  Easy to use and great results.  I think it's worth a look.  I have a black car also and it looks like a damn mirror.

Zymol sucks on black.  Always leaves a haze.  Liquid glass is great for new black paint.  Also as mentioned the king of the hill for wax especially with black is Zaino.  It isn't cheap and it isn't an easy application, but the results can't be touched.

Also, I would not really want to use an orbital buffer on a new black clear finish.  I would use a hand wipe on, wipe off wax.

Oh, on a side note, 4 of my cars and 1 of my motorcycles is black.

Meguiars is the only thing to use; I used to have a black 2000 Honda Civic EX and that's the wax I used on it; works like a charm all the time. Specially their Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax (liquid or paste).
