I've decided to buy a decent (over $12) pair of sunglasses. I'm not all concerned about brand but I want good ones and they have to be polarized. I was at a local sporting goods store and tried out the Oakley Half Jacket with XLJ leneses (http://oakley.com/brochures/eyewear/half_jacket/). I prefer the bronze or gold colored lenese as they seem to seperate colors better (would be nice when hunting and whatnot). Of course these were $150 (found them for $130 online).

Do you wear glasses? Last pair of glasses I had I got a pair of prescription sunglasses. I hear Oakleys are good but I never wear sunglasses. I'd go the prescription route again, I just nnever wore the prescription ones...

half jackets are good, since you can interchange the lenses. Clear for indoor shooting, tinted for outdoor use.

I've worn a pair of Oakley Juliets (polarized "Ice" lenses) everyday for about 5 years now. Lots of abuse. Saved my eyes a few times from flying gravel, brass, jacket fragments, etc. I switch to a pair of M-Frames with clear shields for lab work and indoor ranges.

I have the Half Jackets, I like them a lot. When I damaged the lenses I was able to replace them for well under half the cost of new glasses.

I've had oakley M frames in the past, I could never keep a pair because the hinges kept breaking on the earpieces, this was during the transition between the old and new logos. I guess my face was just too wide for them, the holes in the earpieces would crack and eventually fall apart. I went thru 3 frames in about a year and a half.

I don't know the brand.

They were $8 at the truck stop. Pretty good, though.

Apparently, 9 out of 10 Arfcommers prefer oakleys (according to this thread). Including myself. Spend the money, save your eyes!

Oakley half jackets --black w/ fire irridum lenses ---they were out of the "FMJ 5.56" model at the time (yes a real frame color combination) and a pair of A-wires I still use daily since 2002

Well decided on the Oakley Half Jacket XLJ in black with gold polorized lenses. $125 on eBay!

I've got three pairs of E-Wires - one for normal wear and backups in the truck and the Z.

e-wires are my go-to. Love'em. I can't drive/golf without them if the sun is out, or even on a bright cloudy day.

I want to get a pair of Wiley X's for the range.

I've tried (and owned) Rays, Oakleys, et al... But $ for $ you can't beat Maui Jims..

Best clarity and most durable for the $ polarized glasses you can buy.

I wouldn't recommend WileyX's, try 'em out before you buy, the pair I had were horribly distorted compared to any Oakleys I've ever owned or worn. Try out the Half Jacket XLJ's for shooting, very comfortable, very clear, and not a whole lot bigger than than Wires.

If you're a "true" outdoorman, you'll know about Bucci sunglasses. . . Bucci.com .

Honestly though, these are superb glasses, although not as well known amoung the mainstream. Their major users are snow and water skiers, who require protection from very high glare situations. I love their "rose" colored lenses.
