Pull ’em up or pay up’ is new law in Mansfield
August 13, 2007

MANSFIELD — “Pull ‘em up or pay up.”

That’s Police Chief Don English’s interpretation of a new law that takes effect in Mansfield on Sept. 15

Anyone caught wearing sagging pants who exposes his or her underwear will be subject to a fine of up to $150 plus court costs, or face up to 15 days in jail.

Mansfield aldermen voted unanimously at today’s 4:30 p.m. meeting to enact the new law.

The law makes it illegal to found in a “state of nudity, or partial nudity, or in any indecent exposure of his or her person or undergarments, or be guilty of any indecent or lewd behavior.”

City attorney Richard Z. Johnson Jr. said he used a similar law in Delcambre as a guideline in creating Mansfield’s ordinance. Several municipalities and parish governments in Louisiana have enacted similar laws in recent months.

I too hate the saggy pants look, but I love when idiots wear it.  I can't tell you how many people I've been able to catch in a foot chase because the shithead tripped while trying to run in them.

It appears that they just RE-DEFINED the Indecent Exposure laws...and intend to enforce it!

I don't see a big problem here...

ding ding ding ding!

We have a winner.

That's exactly what will begin to happen in this country.  Wear a gun shirt - sheeple get "scared", we get arrested.   Open carry, sheeple get scared, we get arrested.

Wow....you just gave all of them a good idea to beat this law.

Good thinking, actually.

I agree that while it is stupid to wear your pants that way, it should not be a law to make it an actionable offense.

I tend to smart off and ask if they were someone's prison biatch.  They look at me, and I tell them that the way they are wearing their pants is indicative that they were the pokee in prison.

You see most (but not all) of them pull their pants up.  That Latino Machismo can work against them, especially if they think that wearing their pants that way makes them the catcher.

Stupid fashion trend countered with a stupid law.  Two rights make a wrong!

If everyone has to pull up his pants, how will we identify the knuckleheads at a glance?  And won't this mean they'll be able to run away from the police faster now that they don't have to keep pulling up their pants?

More seriously, doesn't this basically give the police a pretext for hassling street scum?  It's probably a stupid law, but it's not entirely a bad thing.

That's true. This law is enabling suspects to flee from police.
Think of the children.

I'm okay with this as long as a good-looking woman is still allowed to show most of her breasts without being being hassled by The Man.

BTW, sagging and other gangsta styling is not permitted along with River Walk in Shreveport.   You either have to straighten up, leave, or get arrested.

Exactly, live free or die my ass.  (no pun intended)

It's freedom in this country, unless you do something that stands out.

Fucking lawmakers.

So they are going to arrest all the women with their braw straps showing?

Oh, what am I thinking, that would be equal punishment under the law, and we don't have that.

Just wait until its against the dress code to show any skin!

The law of unintended consequences states that this bullshit law will only serve to discourage  sluttly chicks from wearing that hot Daisy Duke shorts /weggie G string combination.

More "Selective Enforcement" is the absolute last thing this country needs right now.
