Public service announcement(your\you're)

Just in case anyone is not sure, or didn't go to school that day week

Your=possessive, example, Your bicycle has a flat tire.

You're=contraction, you+are=you're, example, You're riding a bicycle with a flat tire.

Feel free to mention any others you have noticed on the board

I pray that I did not make any spelling errors in this post

Their hordeing 7.62x39 ammo before the hoards of grammer Communists take up arms.

Ok, get this straight people! "a lot" is two words! Not "alot" or "allot".

Example: CORRECT "I have a lot of guns."

Do NOT say INCORRECTLY "I have alot of guns", or "I have allot of guns".

And for hellsake will you people spell "definitely" correctly?

CORRECT: definitely

INCORRECT: definately

Do any of you happen to be old grey haired ladies?

That pretty much describes my English teachers......so I was just wondering.

My current pet peeve is the commonly used "I seen XXXX the on TV the other day." I can't stand that. It makes people look lazy and ignorant.

two- a number greater than one and less than three (two guns are better than one)
too- a quantity that is larger than desired (can never apply to guns)
to- an direction (i went to the gun store, the FFL sold a gun to me)

its- posessive
it's- contraction if "it is"

lose-action done by non-winners
loose- quality of bolts that are not tight

chose- past tense
choose- present tense or command

their- posessibe
there-location
they're- contraction of "they are"

Tanerite- incorrect spelling of TANNERITE (HA! beat you fuckers to it!)

How about a lesson on '

That is Jakes bike.
That is Jake's bike.
That is Jakes' bike.

That one always confuses me.
Link Posted: 3/6/2006 9:03:23 AM EDT
adding an "s" without apsotrophe pluralized the individual word.

"All the Jakes in the neighborhood have a bike"

adding apsotrophe "s" adds posession to a word

"Jake's bike is blue"

Adding "s" apostrophe pluralizes a group

"All the Jakes in the neighborhood left their bikes out in the rain, now the Jakes' bikes are rusted"
Link Posted: 3/6/2006 9:05:12 AM EDT
"a lot"
- not "alot"
- certainly not "allot"

As in, "A lot of ARFCOMMERS do not know how to spell "a lot"."
