Public Service Announcement:

The ammunition market has plateau in price over the past year. This is as good as it will be from now on versus future price increases, meaning the present day represents a "good ole' days" situation, if you have not figured it out by now. So, in short, do what you can, set aside some money to buy, buy, buy. Ammo is a buy A++ rating .

Ditto on reloading components.   Especially brass.   You should buy lots of brass.   Even if you don't reload.   All brass all the time.

Should I collect my brass from the range even though I don't reload (yet)? Is it worth it?

I'm waiting for IMI to come back down to $318 case before buying.

No.   You should buy it from reputable arfcommers with high post counts.  ahem.

Seriously tho, yeah, collect it if you can find a range that will let you scavenge.   Most won't.

Otherwise, save your own brass and slowly build up a collection.   Even if you never reload, you can sell it to someone who does.
Link Posted: 4/21/2016 7:06:30 PM EDT

I don't buy any ammo except 9mm, and I have a good supply of that.

I should round up components for another 5 or 10K rounds though.

Link Posted: 4/21/2016 7:15:03 PM EDT
should have bought more ammo, but instead i bought a new tool to convert ammunition into brass and noise.

Not really, I have my own little fort. If you are good then carry on, just an FYI to the whiners and procrastinators.......

What a lot of people are doing is playing the "wait and see" game as far as the election goes.
Not only will it be too late by then, but we're also just another tragic mass casualty shooting  away from another panic.

Buy now so you don't call me a "gauger" 7 months from now when I'm paying double for it and unwilling to sell it below cost.....

Do you think 20k rounds are enough?

*Disclaimer: By rounds I mean airsoft pellets. Guns are icky. No normal citizen needs a gun. Besides, I lost all my guns in a boating accident except for a double barrel shotgun as Uncle Joe recommended.

It's interesting you remember that.  Widener's (the old one) was selling IMI M193 1200 round cases for $318 + shipping in, IIRC, 2011.  I bought a number of cases at that price for long-term SHTF.  It's only gone up since then but has fluctuated quite a bit since then.

It's free shipping. Can't help on the tax.

Years ago, when I was taking a lot of training classes
and shooting competitively, ammunition was cheap

and we treated it that way....We shot Waaay more than

necessary; just because.

Very few of the guys wanted their brass, and the range owner

hadn't yet recognized its value...

So,  I and a couple other guys used our break time, lunch

period, etc to collect brass.....

Brass, in common pistol and rifle calibers, will never be

an issue......In fact, looks like all that effort probably paid off.

Cabela's has it for $6.99 a box, that's $349 and they have free shipping right now. If you use active junky they have 10% back which would make it $315 a case delivered.

Active Junky referral link

It also help if you get the gift cards when they are 20% off. My last two cases of IMI cost me btw $240-250.

Anybody who doesn't go into this election season with at least 10K of their favorite calibers is a fool.

ETA: Also guys, check with your homeowners' insurance or your renters' insurance to make sure that your ammo is covered, and if it's not covered, you want to ask them about adding a "rider" to make sure it's covered. It would suck to have all your ammo stolen in the height of the election panic when ammo's no longer readily available.

You are so correct.. So I've decided to add $200 per month for the next few months.  It's what I have extra a month.  But, last month I won $300 bucks in the lottery so  I added 200 rounds of Hornady 5.56 TAP 75 grain T-2 bullet., 60 rounds of Hornady 60 grain Urban TAP and 100 rounds of Winchester Ranger 127 grain +P+ (Private sale)
In a few minutes I will make one more purchase of the Hornady 75 grain. (200 rounds) That will give me 2 basic loads of a very effective new round.
Next month I will look for a deal on the 5.45 Russian, unless I hit another scratch ticket/.

Hah, thanks! Yeah my range lets us collect it. I'll start bringing bags with me next time. Gonna hoard my 9mm and .223 brass now...

Dumb question, should I separate the .223 and 5.56 brass?
