Pro-Gun Bills Marching Through Texas Legislature!

Please Contact the Calendars Committee Today!

This week, the House approved House Bill 991 by State Representative Patrick Rose (D-Dripping Springs), the NRA-backed Concealed Handgun License confidentiality bill.   The bill now moves to the Senate State Affairs Committee for consideration.

Please contact the Senate State Affairs committee members, especially Chairman Robert Duncan (R-Lubbock), and urge them to consider and support HB 991.  A list of committee members and their contact information can be found at http://www.senate.state.tx.us/75r/Senate/commit/c570/c570.htm.

Another important NRA-supported bill, House Bill 1815 by State Representative Carl Isett (R-84), remains in the House Calendars Committee and has not yet been set for a vote by the full House. HB 1815 would clear up any ambiguities in the Texas Penal Code to make it clear that law-abiding Texans can possess handguns in their personal vehicles without needing a Concealed Handgun License.

Please contact the members of the Calendars Committee and politely urge them to set HB 1815 for consideration. Contact information for committee members can be found at http://www.house.state.tx.us/committees/050.htm.

Now we need to get one moving that relieves the CHL carry restrictions from sporting events, schools, and school events.

Georgia's got bigger problems. You can't even carry into a damn restaurant.

Sent a letter to my rep just now ...:
"Hello.  I would like to voice my opinion about the House Bill 1815.  I'm all for the passing of this Bill and would urge you to support it as well.  This would clear up the ambiguities surrounding the current laws reguarding the carrying of pistols by non-CCW, law-abiding citizens in Texas.  Myself, being one that falls into this catagory, am always in fear when traveling to visit relatives, while "legally" carrying my pistol in my truck with me for protection.  I fear that if pulled over for a minor traffic infraction, the officer might take it upon himself to decide the legality of me carrying my pistol.  The current law leaves it up to the officer to make this decision.  Law enforcement officers' jobs are not to decide what the laws are, but to enforce the laws on the the books.  This "grey area" needs to be cleared up, so that citizens in Texas know what is legal and what is not.  Again, I urge you to support this new Bill to become Texas law.  Thank you for your time and attention in this matter.
Seth Schnee"

Good point.  Have we, or have we not, passed the bill that allows people to leave weapons in their vehicles at work, overriding what any company desires?

THIS is a very important clarification.  This has been plainly stated in TX law before, but some jusidictions are blatantly ignoring it.

This bill is dead... IANAL, but AFAIK GA law does not make it illegal to ignore your employer's wishes. They can fire you or kick you off the premises, but as I understand you're not breaking the law to carry in GA, even if your employer restricts it.

HB 1815 has been needed badly.  Hopefully, if it passes, they will educate police officers with regards to it as well.  I have a feeling people will still be getting hassled even if it passes.

Now, if they'll just remove the restriction on school zones, I can finally start carrying.  It's kind of pathetic that, in my "school zone," the youngest student is probably 21 and the average is closer to 25.

The CHL confidentiality bill... is that one that makes it illegal for assholes like those journalists up north to publish whole lists of CHL holders? We could definitely use that.

Isn't it legal to carry on college campuses? I know it's legal to store a gun in your vehicle on a college campus, but I don't know anything else in regards to the laws there.

What we need next is legal, unlicensed open carry like certain other states have. This IS Texas, for pete's sake.
