I'm wondering why 25 to 200 year prison sentences? If you can't trust a con back in society after say 10 years why keep them alive?

Because 1) the fact that someone may have committed multiple crimes that don't warrant the death penalty doesn't mean the death penalty is necessarily appropriate.

2) It is more expensive to kill them than to keep them in prison for the rest of their life.
