WASHINGTON — Local and federal lawmakers representing Maryland
gathered in Prince George’s County to put their support behind a bill in
the U.S. House aimed at creating tougher handgun purchasing laws across
the nation.

"We’ve got to stop guns from coming in, out of state, from these
straw purchasers,” said Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker.

The comments were made at Prince George’s County Police Headquarters,
not far from where a man opened fire on a police station, sparking a
gun battle that killed a county police officer.

Baker, along with Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, backed a
bill by current congressman and U.S. Senate candidate Chris Van Hollen.

"The lax laws in these other states is literally putting Maryland lives at risk,” Van Hollen said.

Van Hollen says HR 2732 the Handgun Purchaser Licensing Act would
give incentives to states for enacting laws that would require handgun
buyers to get a license from law enforcement before they can buy a gun.

Maryland is one of a few states with a law on the books requiring a
license to buy a handgun. Supporters claim it has reduced the number of
cases where a gun purchased in the state is in turn used during a crime.

Their logic is backwards.  If guns were the cause of crime, it would be FREE states with the most crime, not restricted states.  Somehow it's easier for criminals to buy guns and sneak them into restricted states than to just go to the free state and keep the guns there?

PG county is a shithole. I was driving through there yesterday on 1 and it's like a battle zone. Pawn shops, title loan stores, recording studios, people walking out into traffic.

PG county is really in deep shit because of all the gentrification in DC. It's pushing all the hood rats into PG county. There, they live on DC section 8 and DC welfare to live in another state.

So, of course, the issues in that fucked up county is all because of free States.

PG county police should stick to pummeling college students and PG public officials should stick to shielding the out of control police. Its the only things they seem to be good at after all.

If those free states were so crime addled....wouldn't criminals feel more at home there?

Oh wait, probability of being shot drt during a crime probably keeps them in MD.

Whatever.  Want crime to go down....empower your people to defend themselves and get them the tools to do it.

But that's not the goal here....never was.

So why are the homicide and crime rates across the river in Virginia so much lower?

Don't take my word for it.  Check out the 2016 murder stats for the region posted on the left-leaning bedwetting Washington Post website:

Keep in mind, those red/orange dots indicate multiple homicides at the location.

Yeah, the vast majority of the murders are in places where almost no one can carry a handgun legally - DC and MD.  Curious.

Also curious that PG county is the only suburban county outside of DC that has this issue.  Perhaps it's an economic issue.  Yeah, that's it.  The man is keeping those people down.

Whoops, perhaps not.  According to Wikipedia, Prince George's County is the wealthiest African American-majority county in the United States:

Prince George's County is the 70th most affluent county in the United States by median income for families and the most affluent county in the United States with an African-American majority. Almost 38.8% of all households in Prince George's County, earned over $100,000 in 2008.

The issue is liberal politics.  Restrict the rights of law abiding citizens, apologize for criminal behavior, blaming someone else, and have a community that places absolutely no stigma on criminal behavior or convictions.  You know, basically the liberal policies and belief systems that have destroyed pretty much every city in this US.

Well put. I have to listen to Maryland congressional candidate ads boasting that they will ban more guns "to save lives".

Maryland passed and AWB and very restrictive handgun qual licensing system in 2013....and since then murders have practically doubled! Dumb shits just keep pushing gun control because it's easier than fixing schools and bringing jobs to a district.

Restricted states = Softer targets

Progressive Liberals have been brainwashed to the point that they either can't or just flat out refuse to comprehend it is their policies and agendas that are the cause, and facts have become irrelevant to them.

Looking at a map of the U.S. and placing pins where the highest levels of gun violence is being committed it is all progressively liberal controlled areas, it can't be any more obvious and they can't be anymore deliberately oblivious.
