I really think you can thank the internet
before the internet NFA stuff was more of a club you kinda had to have connections know someone to get you started and many many people had not the foggiest clue as how to get started or were afraid to.
Sure you could have called up kent at the time and he probably would have walked you through  but there was so much incorrect info about NFA stuff that was passed along as gospel many people stayed away.
With the advent of the net , you could get the straight scoop and many more people joined the fray therefore increasing demand and getting what we have now

or thats my little theory at least

Not a bad theory. I heard that a lot of people with a lot of money saw them as good investment possibilities and would spend whatever it took to get them. That helped drive the price up where the market could not keep up with the demand.

That's just what I heard. That and that you can convert an AR-15, AK-47, Red Ryder BB Gun to full auto using just a paper clip.

Damn, $2,600 M16s....

I wonder if the NFA prices will keep increasing until we have $40,000+ for even the more common stuff like M16s and MACs......

Look on the bright side, AR15 receivers have come down from $375, you could get a mac11 or an  Uzi, for just a little more. Damn! ........ There is a SOT/class3, at my range, that has a mp5, and AK47, he said he bought them about 15yrs ago, and paid $350 for the Ak, and $450 for the MP5, and thought he was getting ripped.

An MG-42 for $5,500? Now they sell for $42,000! Geez!

They make great investments...

The price is never, ever going to go down, unless congress repeals the '86 ban... Which won't be anytime soon.

Want to be a millionaire in 10-15 years? Buy a single pre-86 M16 and sit on it.

Now tell me again where it says that the Constitution protects our rights to keep and bear arms? Oh I got, it applies just to people who have money or so it seems.
