What a fucking original idea.....

Star Trek looks to past

Prequel ... new movie will be set before Captain Kirk

By SIMON ROTHSTEIN
Sun Online

THE next Star Trek movie will be set 160 years before the birth of Captain Kirk, the film's writer has revealed.

Erik Jendreson, who is penning the 11th movie in the franchise, has confessed he's setting it in the not too distant future.

While the original Star Trek – featuring Kirk, Spock, Sulu and Scotty – was set in the 2260s, the new film will take place only 100 years from now.

Erik told sci-fi website www.syfyportal.com: "We're going 160-odd years before Kirk is born.

"It's an earlier time, and I think it would be really refreshing to feel something in the course of telling this tale, instead of being wowed by special effects, or presenting another crew in jeopardy where, in the end, the captain does something brilliant, and all’s right with the world.

Erik also confirmed the movie would not be a spin-off of the much-maligned and recently cancelled TV series Enterprise.

He added: "There is a lot of misinformation out there, negative speculation and ill-will.

"Everybody just needs to just take a Romulan chill pill and have some faith.

"Everything that has gone down over the last few years has not been lost on the gentlemen involved in this effort.

"I think it would be wonderful to bring a whole new generation into this world."

WTF?!? I'm sick of this bullshit.  I don't expect *everything* to fit together when you have so many people contributing ideas over DECADES but this is just insane.  You know Goddamn well that Berman will manage to fuck up the timeline again since this sounds very close to the first episode of "Enterprise" (2151) but based on the posting it sounds like they'll just pretend that it didn't happen for the new movie.

Will somebody in power at Paramount PLEASE kick this motherfucker in the nuts and GET RID OF HIM.

"Feel something"?!?!?   It's supposed to have lots of action, scenes showing the ship, and a clever kill shot. This guy is trying to make Star Trek into a romance novel.

If it is anyone who has ever had anything to do with Star Trek at any time in the past, the movie is now officially fucked up.

I didn't like Enterprise. I did run into it when they were at war and watched a few, but it was otherwise a real bummer of a show. Worse than SG Atlantis, much much worse in fact.

I liked the Captain on DS9. He was bad ass. Too bad they never had him wear a trench coat with a sawed off shotgun underneath and slowly say, "Speeeencer."

Preach it!

TNG:  Berman does a few episodes, they sucked.  He left to do DS9, TNG got better
DS9:  Berman does first two seasons, they sucked.  He left to do voyager, DS9 got better
Voyager:  Berman does the series.  The series sucked.
Enterprise:  Berman does the series.  The series sucked so bad that paramout killed it off before it could run the seven seasons.

Are we seeing a fucking trend here?

Wait a minute, they want to go back even farther in time than the Enterprise show?  I liked that show actually but it obviously didn't really work.

WTF are they going to do cruise around the solar system in a space shuttle?  That is the worst idea I've heard in a long long time.  There is plenty of stuff they could do up in the "current" TNG+ timeline...  This prequel stuff is lame...

If they just want to do a random "Mission to Mars" type movie that's fine, but don't make it a Star Trek movie...

Star Trek NERD Alert.

All you guys who don't give a shit - go pound sand.  You haven’t watched the series from the beginning.  I was a 6 year old kid that was watching the last season and then started watching reruns on Saturday afternoons.  If it wasn't for TOS there wouldn’t be Farscape, Stargate, Babylon 5, ect.

Think about it – in only 102 years man has gone from being earthbound to going to the moon and beyond.  With technology increasing exponentially, who knows where we will be in that time.

The Star Trek Series is a possible scenario of the future.  I know the purists will say negative things about Berman and Braga.  Just deal with it and make your own conclusions.

The way I look at it, the new movie would be between ST:Enterprise and Star Trek:TOS.  However, they would have to resolve several inconsistencies with the TOS first meeting of Klingons and several other species and the current ST:Enterprise.  To be honest, I stopped watching Enterprise after the 2nd season for home/work reasons.  Plus, when they switched it to Friday night, it pretty much killed it for me personally.

I, for one, would like to see what they come up with.

The Timeline:

Events prior to the 20th Century  (prehistory to 1899)

The 20th Century  (1900 - 1999)

The 21st Century  (2000 - 2099)

The first half of the 22nd Century (2100 - 2150)

The first season of Star Trek: Enterprise (April 2151 - February 2152)

The second season of Star Trek: Enterprise (February 2152 - June 2153)

The third season of Star Trek: Enterprise  (June 2153 - February  2154)

The fourth season of Star Trek: Enterprise (February 2154 - February 2155)

The remainder of the 22nd century (March 2155-2199)

The early to mid 23rd Century (includes "The Cage")  (2200 - 2264)

Kirk Date of birth: March 22, 2233

The First Season of Classic Trek (2265 - 2267)

The Second Season of Classic Trek (2267 - 2268)

The Third Season of Classic Star Trek (2268 - 2269)

The Animated Star Trek Series   (2269 - 2270)

The Classic Star Trek Movie Era, Star Trek I - VI  (2270 - 2299)

The First Season of Star Trek the Next Generation  (2364)

The Second Season of Star Trek the Next Generation  (2365)

The Third Season of Star Trek the Next Generation  (2366)

The Fourth Season of Star Trek the Next Generation  (2367)

The Sixth Season of Star Trek the Next Generation, First Season of Deep Space Nine  (2369)

The Seventh Season of Star Trek the Next Generation, Second Season of Deep Space Nine  (2370)

The Third Season of Deep Space Nine, First Season of Voyager, Star Trek: Generations (2371)

The Fourth Season of Deep Space Nine, Second Season of Voyager  (2372)

The Fifth Season of Deep Space Nine, Third Season of Voyager, Star Trek: First Contact  (2373)

The Sixth Season of Deep Space Nine, Fourth Season of Voyager  (2374)

The Seventh Season of Deep Space Nine, Fifth Season of Voyager, Star Trek: Insurrection  (2375)

The Sixth Season of Voyager  (2376)

The Seventh Season of Voyager, Star Trek: Nemesis and the rest of the 24th century..  (2377-2399)

I disagree. SG1 predates all the others. Next Friday they time travel back to ancient Egypt.

It’s all in the ancient altered timelines...

On a more serious note, there were tons of SF shows in the ‘60s, most of which I have never seen or heard of since. Some of these were much more popular at the time and had longer runs. ST did not become a biggie until the ‘80s when the movies came out and TNG took off. The SciFi world is much bigger than just ST.

Also notice that the SciFi Channel makes most of the new shows. If not for them they would not be made at all. ST has little or nothing to do with it. Gene Roddenberry is to SciFi what John Browning was to firearms. Important figures yes, but not the only players on the field.

Dang, the Star Trek movies are easy not to mess up yet they do.

Take a good plot, you have Patrick Stewart and other good/decent actors, and then throw in some action and good effects.  Boom, got yourself a Star Trek movie.

If done properly (writing and directing) - let me repeat that - If done properly, it could be quite interesting.  In "Star Trek" there were many references to events which occurrred before, certain plagues, dictators, revolutions, etc., which ostensibly led to the "Federation."  What kinds of exploration took place?  When did they meet the <forgot the planetary system, now> who gave them "sub-space communications" and "warp drive".  Could be interesting if explored well.  Do I think Nuttywood will do this right?  Not really.

Actually, I'd like to see something done regarding Col. Green. Anybody remember that guy? Supposedly some sort of renegade mil. guy with megalomania, trying to take over or destroy the universe. Much potential there.

You know what I don't get? They're supposed to "boldly go where no man has gone before" but there's always someone waiting for them.

Comedian Carlos MEncia does a f'ing hilarious bit about Star Trek. He says that he doesn't want to live in the future because there are never any vatos in sci-fi. Look at Star Trek: They hav a white guy, a Scottish guy, a Russian guy, a black chick, an Oriental guy ... and he's DRIVING!
