My wife just took a home pregnancy test. It has two lines on it (pregnant), but one of them is pretty light. Since this line is theoretically activated by a hormone, it means she is preggers, right? Does the darkness of the line matter?

If so, whohooo! Look what I did!

So who's the father?
Link Posted: 9/18/2005 5:33:38 AM EDT
2 lines, no matter how faint, means your wife is pregnant. Congrats!

This is ARFCOM, not the FAL Files, buddy.

We cut right to the chase.

Congrats!

A buddy of mine felt that because the line was faint his woman wans't preggers.

It was sad to watch him in denial as she got slightly bigger in the first few weeks to follow.
Link Posted: 9/18/2005 5:36:35 AM EDT
Sometimes the lines fade, if you look at it in an hour you probably won't have any lines.
Link Posted: 9/18/2005 5:38:54 AM EDT
Congrats if it's for sure!

Of course.

Though usually accurate these home pregnancy tests are not infrequently falsely positive. Or negative for that matter.

Get a serum HCG done at the doc's office.

Hopefully congratualtions are in order.

Dude the exact same thing happened to us. I could see a faint line and she really could'nt, it was just enough to ask me. We ended up buying another EPT that simply said either "pregnant" or "not pregnant"

She was pregnant. Yee Haw no sleep or money for me.

Congrats!

If you have a toy you've been wanting, buy it now. Children are about best thing that'll ever happen to you, but they are expensive!

The line is caused by the presence of a hormone in her blood stream. If you have any question about it, get another one in a few days and the line will be darker.

My wife and I were married for 8 years (and lived together 2 years before that) before she got pregnant and we had been told by more than one doctor that she could not get pregnant. We bought more than one doctor "more than one Porche" trying to get that way. We finally gave up and I bought her a 2-seater sports car with NO back seat. Then I knocked her up almost immediately. Had to trade-in the car, though...

Congrats! (I hope...) Ours is now 10 years old, too smart for his own good, has to drive away the little girls with a stick (already???) is getting his Black Belt this year and can out shoot most of the officers from my old unit.

Edited to add: Your wifey should be getting a visit from the "booby fairy" in a few weeks too, enjoy!

Two lines means your getting twins.
Link Posted: 9/18/2005 6:54:58 AM EDT
I think two lines means that its twins.

Congrats man - I knew you had it in you!

Just went and got another test...

Link Posted: 9/18/2005 7:22:02 AM EDT
Congrats again, now call the Doctor and get that prenatal care going.
Link Posted: 9/18/2005 7:45:34 AM EDT
You can get a false negative, but you will NEVER get a false positive. That hormone don't come around unless there's a bun in the oven. As the father of two, just let me say:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
You have no idea what you are in for!

I know it's going to be hard to sleep tonight, but work at stocking up on the Z's now, cause you ain't getting much for the next coupla years.
Link Posted: 9/18/2005 7:48:28 AM EDT
Congratulations!! On baby!

Enjoy lots of this soon.

I will feel for you when you get to this stage in the joy

Untrue. Seen more than a few.
That is based on what patients have told me. In fact I have had a 2 patients who told me they did 2 tests, both were positive and then have our serum HCG come back neg.
They are simple tests and pretty reliable but certainly not perfect.

Congratulations.

Now stop saying "preggers" it makes you sound like a sissy girly man.
Link Posted: 9/18/2005 10:35:46 AM EDT
Yep she is. My wife took one 3 weeks ago with the same results. The second line was considerably lighter than the first. We called the Dr after she took another test to make sure. The Dr said that you have a better chance hitting the lottery than having a false positive test.

Congradulations Daddy!

I don't know about you but I am shitting my pants!
Link Posted: 9/18/2005 10:51:17 AM EDT
Well, congrats to all of you soon-to-be dads.

Better you than me. I like my sleep too much to deal with podlings.

Congrats! Our 2nd child is due in January. He was a "one dark, one light" line on the pregnancy test as well.

Some people see kids as a reason not to buy anymore guns. I beg to differ. A child is a whole new reason you NEED to buy more guns. "See honey, it's for the baby!"

I've heard nearly the opposite from two people who worked at OBGYN offices. You will almost never get a negative if you are pregnant, but once in a while you might get a positive test even though you are not pregnant. That's what I've heard. But I'm a rocket scientist, not a doctor, so pregnancy tests aren't my specialty.

Set up an appointment with the doctor asap to confirm the home test. They're very good, but not 100%. If it's confirmed, the doc can immediately start some prenatal care going.

If it's confirmed, Congrats! (or condolences, if that's your preference )

You have my condolences.

Congrats, I would'nt have missed my kiddo for the world. Buy all the ammo you need NOW for the next few years, cause you can't load poopy diapers into a gun, and every bag of them you by =s 2 boxes of ammo. They'll use em up as fast as you would empty a mag. Shoot pissy smelling ammo also, it'll help with the smells right up to the point their poop gets stinky. After that, nothing helps.
