My take on it is if the ban sunsets there will still be a slight premium on current prebans in the event that somwhere down the road they pass some other legislation that is retroactive to thr 94 ban and essentially requires that any post-2004 preban configured rifles be neutered to post-ban status.

If the ban continues it will likely be renewed without a sunset provision so expect already inflated prices to climb even higher.

A third outcome could be that all "assault rifles" pre or post could be banned.  This is highly unlikely as it would constitute a regulatory taking and the government would have to pay market value for every fire-arm that they seized...  There are likely tens of millions of rifles in this country that would fall into this classification with say an average value of $600... some less and some far more...  We are talking literally about billions of dollars to seize these guns.  Try selling that program to a Republican Congress.
