When somebody pour a half thermos full of cafe mocha latte on the street from their car, would you consider that littering?

No.

I wouldn't call it that, no.

Litter is something that can be seen over 24 hours and is not biodegradable or easily washed away by water.
Link Posted: 6/4/2008 3:13:36 PM EDT
No.

I'd consider it in poor taste, but it's not littering.

I'm so sure of the answer I'll say it in three languages - English, Italian and Spanish.  No, no and no.

So you would not care if i took a crap or pissed on your front porch? Just cause it biodegrades or washes away does not mean its not litter.

Are you being serious?

I vote no.

But on a side note, why has no one decried McDonald's for actively encouraging the trashing of our highways and roads?  Ever read the bag?  It says "Please put litter in its place."  By definition, for it to be litter, it has to be somewhere other than a trash can, otherwise, wouldn't it be trash?  Bastards are gonna make that Indian guy shed another tear....

Ya, well I wouldn't want your car leaking oil on my porch either.

Apples and oranges, it's the street.

Jeez, get a grip.

Poop doesn't get washed away or biodegrade after 24 hours.

I do think that his description is a bit broad, though.  I would say that if it doesn't leave a stain or a mark, will not cause a bad odor, is not harmful, and will not get on anyone, it can be thrown on the ground.  Throwing ice cream on the sidewalk - NO.  Throwing soda in the weeds - YES.  Throwing soda on the grass - NO.  Throwing ice cream down the storm drain - MEH, WHY NOT.

So, if I take a drink of water from .. say a garden hose and spit it on the ground, that is littering?

Depends on where it's dumped.  In a parking space?  Bad.  At an intersection or something?  Who cares. I don't get out of my car there.

Yup, a friend of mine got a ticket for littering after dumping the contents of a Whataburger cup onto the ground at a stop light.

Doesn't everyone?

Also noteworthy, along with potable water, you will not be charged with littering if live chicken feathers fall from your vehicle.

But those are the only two things allowable by law, in Texas.  And thank goodness.  If I had a nickel everytime a live chicken feather fell out of my truck...

Oh, man.

You know that came about because some farmer got cited eons ago, while he was taking his chickens to market.

Dude, if shit could be washed away within 24 hours then why the fuck do I pick up my dogs shit in the yard all the time?

Liquids should not be considered littering unless they are harmful, such as dumping gas or oil intentionally.

It was quite a while back, never followed up on what happened afterwards.
