Every time movies are talked about in GD, people lament how originality is dead, no one makes good movies anymore, blah blah...

Haven't found that to be true at all. Hollywood isn't the only place movies are made, never was, still plenty of good things out there and I enjoy finding little-known features.

Recently caught this one and loved it...funny and clever.

Adam Carolla's first movie "The Hammer" was excellent, and few people saw it unfortunately because it was hilarious and very well made for a self-produced movie. (he's working on a new one now)

An Australian comedy "Kenny" was really great in the same theme as these two.

I'll add more as I think of them, but what's some good "under the radar" movies that you've seen lately?

No, I want you to call me "Stiggs". It sounds more ridiculous.

Outlander was decent.

Iron Sky was pretty funny.

Centurion was a good and brutal movie with David Fassbender as a Roman centurion.

Soldier with Kurt Russel. Underrated IMO.

I have plenty more at home that I could reference if I was at my computer.

That movie was MUCH better than I thought it would be.

Trollhunter is another good one. It's on Netflix.

One of my favorites, here's the entire movie:

The picture is slightly dark, you might want to turn up your brightness a little bit.

Stardust. Neil Gaiman wrote a fantasy story about a medieval kingdom that exists beyond a wall in a 19th century British village. Anyone who grew up watching Princess Bride will like it. VERY clever dialog and a lot of dark humor.

2008, and almost totally overlooked.

Yeah, they made some unfortunate changes. It's worth it for the flawless choreography of a zombie swordfight, though.

"Terribly Happy"  It's a Danish movie (yes, that means subtitles for us non-Danish speakers).  Not a fast-paced action flick but a very good black comedy.

I have the dubbed version, wish it was subtitled. The dubbing has absolutely no feeling in the voices and turns what could be a great movie into a guy reading a script while showing a video. No emotion, no feeling, nothing. As good as the movie is otherwise I'm sure it's very different in the original language. Interestingly though, the dubbing matches with the characters' mouths speaking pretty well-unlike the early Bruce Lee movies and many other Chinese karate movies.

People shit on this movie too much.

James Franco should win an award for his performance.
