The most significant differences are the rear sight assembly, and these are an integral part of the upper receiver. You would need to buy an A2 upper receiver and have your existing barrel installed on it. The round A1 5-position front post just unscrews and an A2 post installed in its place.

No you can't. But you can replace the aperture itself to get the A2 big ghost ring and small target sight rather than the A1 two apertures of the same size.

Thanks much, guys. Not exactly what I was hoping to hear (since I'd really like an AR-15 now...), but I suppose I can hold of on buying till LEGP-2.
