If it's been talked about I've never seen it, but, what would be the drawbacks to putting a fine polishing gel on some of the parts that have contact with each other when firing? This would only be for, say 100-200 rds to polish all mating surfaces and then go back to regular oil - it seems it would smooth the firing process -- like polishing your trigger surfaces. Good or bad idea?

why not replace the oil in your new car's engine with polishing compound? You are assuming that the new parts are rough and NEED polishing.

There are kits you can buy to fire lap your barrel. This uses a compound on regular or special bullets.

Why cause more wear than necessary? How about just shooting 600 rounds, letting the rifle 'polish' itself, and have fun in the process.
