MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say a man packing a blue light and a BB gun pulled over a non-descript car on Interstate 95, ready to play "traffic cop" again. Bad move: the driver he pulled over is a real police detective.
The police report shows 46-year-old Pacheco Bustamante was arrested Friday morning on a felony charge of impersonating a Florida police officer. It says Bustamante was driving a Ford Crown Victoria similar to many police vehicles when he approached the detective's unmarked car and activated a siren. The detective pulled onto the highway shoulder, then arrested Bustamante when it became clear he's no officer. The report says Bustamante told police he had done this before. http://www.wbrc.com/story/35153732/police-impersonator-pulls-over-officer-needs-real-lawyer |

Police Detective arrests dummy. I'll defend the dummy. I'm no lawyer, but I can fumble his case and get him a long stay in the hoosgow.

There was a village in Boca, Raton, off A1A just north of the county line, that was literally two streets in a gated subdivision. They'd rent the police range at Markham twice a year to qualify. Their 12 officers were...old. Really old, like all in their fifties and sixties. This was 2006 and they all had S&W model 67's. They showed up for a qualification and wanted 1,000 rounds of .38 RN (we had maybe five fifty round boxes in our shop). They raised a stink and wrote a check from the 'Boca Village Improvement Association'. Something seemed off so Doug asked to see their LE credentials. Their 'Chief' got all huffy and refused, saying 'civilians' couldn't order him around. One of the BSO deputies came over and started asking questions, turns out these guys were just residents of a retirement community, it wasn't even an incorporated village, just a 55 and up gated subdivision. These 12 guys weren't cops, just 12 of the homeowners. They had uniforms, patrol cars, badges, and had been writing tickets to 'speeders' and other law breakers in their subdivision. I think the 'chief' had a Florida 'D' security license. Apparently he was head of the HOA and one day he decided the subdivision was a 'village' and he decided to form a police force. They'd been renting the police range for qualification since back when Holden was rangemaster, no one had ever questioned their legality, they'd always showed up in uniforms and crown Vic's with the 'village' logo. The 'chief' and his 'force' were all NY retirees. I remember there was a big shit-show over how long they'd gotten away with it.

Really a strange disorder that makes people want to impersonate police.

Seriously, the youngest of the 12 officers was 55+. Three Crown Vic patrol cars, four guys to a car, rolled into our parking lot. It was surreal. When I was with them, filling out paperwork, alarms were screaming in my head. All carrying revolvers in duty rigs with dump pouches, no speed loaders. Showing up to qualify with no ammo, then N'york-raging when we didn't have enough on hand for them. I politely said "Hey, if you give us a call when you schedule range time, we'd be happy to order a case of ammunition for you, we usually don't have more then a case on hand for any given caliber, we just don't sell very much." 'Chief' got all huffy and pissy, calling me a 'lousy punk kid' (Lol I was gray haired and forty years old). The twelve guys were huffing and puffing in the Florida heat, old Duke saw them on the line and asked if they were the SWEAT team. View Quote |

Local dude got busted for the same thing a couple years ago. Well known scam artist around here but he'd hop out on the interstate and pull out of state plated cars. Typically he pulled over hispanics he thought would not understand the law. Had a silver former LE crown vic, blacked out windows etc. Made some money until someone called him in while they were stopped and voila, he was busted.

Happened here on Long Island several years ago.
Ended differently. The Detective saved the taxpayers a lot of money. |

I kinda understand the lack of mental horsepower that would get some guy to play LEO as a way to try to make a few bucks.
They are con artists/robbers. Just another angle for them. The ones that really, really scare me are the ones that do it because they always wanted to be a cop but were too shithouse nuts to get on the job somewhere. I was a rent-a-cop for a couple of years when I was in college, there were several of the latter types in that line of work. Most were "smile, nod and slowly back out of the room" level of weird. |

Thread title should have been: "Police officer impersonator pulls over real officer, you won't believe what happened next!"
|
|
It still boggles my mind that there are people who do this shit.
|
|
We had a volunteer firefighter in the local area use his lights to pull over an off duty sheriffs deputy. I don't know every detail other than the volly ended up getting his ass beat pretty hard by the deputy and then cuffed and stuffed by the state cop that showed up after the beat down.
Just across the river in Saint Ann MO a former Saint Ann PD car was sold with all markings intact. The buyer then added some emergency lights and went around pulling over women and raping them. |

My mom got pulled over by the coroner of the next county over once.
Since she was barely outside of the city limits on the way out to their farm she called into the local police who showed up,blocked his car in and then told her she was free to go. Not to much longer he followed some high school chick out of town and tried to pull her over on a dirt road. She wouldnt stop for him and drove back into town to the police station. He lost his official vehicle with lights and sirens after that one. |
|
My all time favorite was the guy that dropped almost 2K of emergency lighting and fake radios into a shitty Corolla AND convinced his mom to pay for it.
No uniform, no gun, no fake badge, just the car. He even wrote his own tickets. On a yellow legal pad in his own handwriting. With his address listed as to where to send the fine. Nope, not a single call to the PD about him. An alert officer spotted the gear and ran the plate, seems he was wanted out of VA for medical fraud. (He pretended to be a doctor) In the post-arrest interview he stated that he had stopped and written 40 people and about 15 had sent him the fine money. |

Honestly aside from the Walmart hubcap up front it looks pretty legit. I always get a laugh out of the storm spotter weirdos or SAR guys with their surplus CVPIs and Tahoes with $2500 worth of Blue or Amber LED lights and 4-5 radios antennas all topped off by special LE Support license plates. Literally when one of them shows up at a scene I point and laugh. Fucking whackers. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

A bunch of storm spotters just died down here, they were both chasing the same storm and met at a 4-way intersection out in the middle of nowhere west Texas. The local media called them "heroic first responders". They died for the Weather Channel. |

More often then not, on the crown Vic message forums, PI stood for Police Impersonator and not Police Interceptor.
