So I'm not the Sheriff's Office IT guy (the don't have one) but I do support them if they have a ticket.
Unit X was the Dept. LPR (license plate reader) vehicle. Evidently it died last year, and now the Dept. wants to do something about it.
AFAIK it worked well while it was alive.
Now the processor in the car is dead- one long beep every few seconds. Monitor and keyboard give no response.
Pips Technology offers zero support for such an outdated project. A "top to bottom" replacement of cameras, car proc and full software upgrade is 13K. Sheriff says no way. In car proc upgrade is 5K, and again Sheriff won't bite.
I did manage to find a guaranteed, exact replacement unit for $200.00, and Sheriff wants to go that route.
Never done this before, and the software/licensing status is unknonw. In a perfect world it would be a simple plug and play swap.
Anybody ever have this problem before, or use this software? I do have the full software suite (car laptop and server side software available) with license keys.
