I've been asking in the gun forums about the Walther PP32 and they say it's a good "plinking gun".  What is Plinking?

Can't be serious...

Stemming from the sound a bullet makes when it hits a tin can.

Plinking, as opposed to serious target shooting, or loading for self defense.

I only use paper to zero sights or optics. After that, all I do is plinking.

If you're out shooting cans for fun you're plinking.

If you're sighting in a hunting rifle you aren't.

So it's shooting tin cans rather than paper targets or "anything else" that you wish to shoot..

plinking is the sound made when you use a gun to shoot at the buttons on the tv when you have lost the remote control and are too lazy to get up and change the channel.

May I suggest an AR and a 1911, two arfcom staples?

I'm heading out to Chicago tonight. Maybe I'll bring an AR or two. Or, maybe I won't, since the city is run by communists.

Many people who are in the beginning stages of their firearm's interests will come across several terms they are unfamiliar with.

A quick google.com search can answer your questions almost immediately.  Another plus to the google search is that it saves on the cost of this site's bandwidth.  One simple post is a drop in the bucket but several hundred threads running with very basic knowledge inquiries begins to add up.

Of course, if your intent was to initiate discussion of plinking then, by all means, please post away.  We always welcome firearm's discussions here.

Good luck.

Thank you.
I wanted to know the definition.  I didn't know where to ask.

Suffice it to say that's why we want to change it...or why a lot of people want to leave Illinois.

deej why don't you take a Hunter Safety course or go rent a firearm at the range and get some hands-on time with a firearm before you go out spending money on whatever you decide on?

I like to shoot at stuff that goes 'plink' for fun, when not shooting for accuracy.  Soda cans, pepper poppers, some old washing machine or rusted out car somebody left out in the desert.  If it goes plink or it sends copper jackets back my way it's plinking.

If you're looking for a good quality rifle that's inexpensive that you can go practice with, might I suggest either the Mosin-Nagant Model 91/30:

www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Russian_Model_91_30_7_62x54R_Mosin_Nagant.html

(Only $69.95)

The carbine version, the M44 is also very nice.  I own both.  They fire the 7.62x54R round, of which imported surplus can be found for cheap all over.

For a few bucks more, a Yugoslavian M59/66 SKS is a hell of a rifle:

www.interordnance.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=INTERORDNANCE.com&Product_Code=SKSK0001-G

(Only $88.95)

It fires the 7.62x39 cartridge (same as an AK-47 style rifle), and it can be found all over the place for cheap.

I own a couple of these.

All great rifles, all easy to shoot, all cheap to shoot.  Best of all, they can be had for under $100.

You should buy one.

Yes, my BIL has a Glock 19.  I think I've also held his 1911 and his Garand.
