What has happened to this country?

What has brought us to this point?

May God forgive us.

This country is officially screwed.  I wonder if the Supreme court will hear the case.

Oddly enough, the pledge was originally written by a socialist Baptist minister who was forced from the pulpit back in the 1890's.

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

Just to introduce a juxtaposition, I was sworn in as a juror this week in circuit court, by "Almighty God"...

this was in a Government Criminal trial...

That is a good question. But if it is heard it will be upheld. If you have Adobe you can read the decision here: http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/ca9/newopinions.nsf/FE05EEE79C2A97B688256BE3007FEE32/$file/0016423.pdf?openelement

The justices that wrote this. They were very careful. This is not your ordinary piece of trash out of the 9th Circut. They subjected this to every legal test the Supreme Court itself has created for Establishment Clause cases. And, most damming of all, they researched the Legislative history of the 1954 act. The words of the author and sponsors make the intent of the act plain, it was to link loyalty to the United States to belief in the Judeo/Christian god.  There was no unambiguity about it at all. It is simply to blaitant to be passed over unless they wish to throw out the whole concept of seperation of church and state.

I know some here are not going to care, they WANT to consider people not of their faith to be un patriotic and lesser citizens. But look for yourself, look up the cited precidents, there isn't much leeway here.

Which is why the may NOT hear it! Its too well written, much like Emerson, the Supremes are left without room to manuver, especally as so many of the citations in this were written by Justices still sitting on the Supreme court.
