Dear Sen. Deb Fischer, Sen. Mike Johanns, and Rep. Adrian Smith: I support Protecting law-abiding Americans' Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms for self-defense because... it is a god given right recognized by the founding fathers and protected by the Second Amendment. Any new gun law would punish law abiding citizens for the actions of criminals. We need to work on the underlying issues and enforce current laws with harsher penalties. |

I am the descendant of a Lexington Minuteman and a law enforcement officer with over 20 years responding to 9-1-1 calls. I can provide first hand testimony that criminals do not care about the laws we enact as evidenced by their continued criminality.
I support Protecting law-abiding Americans' Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms for self-defense because passing more "feel good" laws will not reduce crimes or deaths, but instead will make criminals out of law abiding citizens and place them at increased risk from armed criminals. Additionally, despite suggestions to the contrary, there is no mention of "sporting" or "hunting" in the Second Amendment. I have twice taken an Oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, as have the members of Congress. While it may have been in question before, the right to keep and bear arms has been defined by the Supreme Court as an individual right like all others, and I will view any attempt to restrict that right as an act in violation of that oath. |
