We're getting one or the other for the grandkids to have here at the house.  Appear very similar, with the X box allowing multiple players and having better graphics.  Any opinions or suggestions?
Thanks

I got my boys a PS4 for Christmas.
Only reason I picked it over an Xbox was because I got a better deal on a bundle.

Do they have a system at home? If so then I'd probably get whatever they've already got.

+1 that way they can bring games from home and use saves from their other system.

I say PS4, just because I want one, and only for one game - Bloodborne.

I'm buying an Xbox One S for myself.  Deciding factor was purely based on 4K Blu Ray DVD player.

Used to be Playstation had a leg up because online play was free but now both require a subscription.

If they do they'd be able to use their own account at either location.

I asked the same question a month ago.

I went with an X Box One S because you can play two players and it has a 4k dvd player.

I like my S for 4k streaming and games look sweet on UHD.

Far broader game assortment on the ps4 and much better exclusives.  Plus Sony is pulling away Microsoft exclusives also.

We got the XBOX ONE s with the 1TB and Madden 17 bundle and extra controller for $315 last week. I didn't want to spend a fortune but we have quite a few used 360 games and nearly all of them will run on the ONE s.

PS4 is pretty darn nice, but, we have no games for it and PSonline is kinda a waste compared to Xbox-live if you already have an Xbox account.

That said, either one will do. I put the $$$ I was going to spend on a good bluray player into the cost of the new set top box anyhow.

What do their friends have?  That's should be the deciding factor.

The Xbox has a fantastic system for controlling access when you have a family, you can create a separate gamertag for the kids with your own account set as the master and then have total control over what they can do with regards to online play, chat options, amount of play time, etc.

Plus the Elite controller is scary good.

Ask their parents first if they have an Xbox or a playstation.  Whichever one they say you should get.  If they don't have either, then go with your best decision from the comments above and below.

Don't think you can go wrong with either, I sent my daughter an Xbox One S via the Microsoft online store, which was a painless experience. The xbox is $50 again at the MS online store, I would guess that the PS4 is running a matching deal...good time to buy!

We went with an Xbox because both of our boys can play it and we already have a 360 and lots of the games will work on it.   The 4K part is nice too.

I like my PS4 but if you care anything about mods for games, get an Xbox.  PS4 gets shit on when it comes to mods.

I went with an Xbox 1 S because it s one of the cheapest 4K bluray players on the market if you get a deal.

I literally never intend to use it as a video game system.  I don't play games often but if I do I want a mouse and keyboard.

Here s a tip of you buy a bundle from Walmart and don't want the extra parts you can return the items you don't want individually at top dollar.

I got an Xbox one S for $149+tax at Walmart. (after returning a 4K bluray and $40 gift card) and selling battlefield 1

What do you guys mean when you say xbox can have more than one player?  Do you mean online sub accounts??

I haven't the faintest idea what they're talking about and this is right up my alley.

PS4 has more powerful hardware and nicer controllers.  The Xbox One is comparatively not as good as the Xbox or Xbox 360 were when they were released - Microsoft is no longer "giving away the razor to sell the cartridges", so to speak.

If only getting one console, I'd get a PS4 over the Xbox One unless there are Xbox exclusive games you want to play.

IF you want a complete media center get the Xbox. If you want exclusive titles get ps4.

My Xbox controls my TV, u-verse, soundbar. Everything is routed through it. Nothing you can't live without but it's nice.

This.  Pretty much nothing else is going to matter to a kid, if they can't play online with their friends.

Edit:  I'm not sure what OP and the others are talking about with "multiple players".  Both support online gaming and allow splitscreen gameplay (assuming the game itself supports it) for 2 players in the same room to play.  PS4 allows multiple accounts on a system, as well.  Only the master account needs a PS+ subscription for all accounts to game online.  I assume Xbox is the same.

Lol.  No "get both" yet?  Which ironically is what many end up doing.

I went with PS4, still have and use my PS3 too.  Only a few games on Xbox I considered that were exclusives, PS had/has more that appealed to me.

Kinda on the fence about getting a 1 S for myself (and I'm sure my son would use it :) ).

Problem is, I'm not sure how much I'd actually play games. The Blu-ray player is nice I guess. It is compatible with regular DVD's, isn't it?

Truth be told, if you are the type to make such a destiction between....gaming systems and those that buy them....the "man child" is very likely you.

+1, idiotic statements are idiotic

OP, at this point you should be deciding between the PS4 Pro and the One S.  Having both systems I still generally prefer my Xbox.
