The shooting occurred at 7:20 p.m. at the corner of Seventh Street and Fort Duquesne Boulevard when the officer attempted to awaken a homeless man who was sleeping with his dog, Toler said. The German shepherd attacked the officer and bit his forearm before the policeman shot the animal, Safety Department spokeswoman Sonya M. Toler said. The officer was treated for the wound and then taken for drug and alcohol testing, which is standard procedure following any police-involved shooting, Toler said.

Although another source stated the officer was uninjured.

All in all, good shoot. I hope the officer re-evaluates how he wakes up homeless men with dogs, though.
