Youre in a gunfight.  You have a 12 ga pistol gripped shotgun or a sidearm of your choice.  What do you take?

I'd take the shotgun if it was a Benelli semi auto.

Why?  The Benelli M1, M2, M3, M4 are all semi auto pistol grip 12 gauges.

I'll take pretty much any full size, semi-automatic pistol over a pistol grip only shotgun.

Pistol.

Unless I'm fighting a bunch of locked doors.

It's pistol grip ONLY in this scenario (no stock).

The benelli's inertia operated system is also partially contained in the stock.

A pistol gripped shotguns serve only one purpose well, a secondary arm that is used to breech doors. Two if you count making you look like a mall ninja gun noob...

I would take the pistol, unless the shotgun came with a stock on it of some sort (pistol grip stock is fine).

I should have clarified.  Pistol grip only.  Benelli's have a buffer in the stock, right?

Oh.  Yeah I misunderstood the question.  I'd take a pistol.

Depends for across the room inside the house I'll take the shotgun, outside I want the pistol for distance.

Ahm. you still have to aim (hard as shit when you don't have a stock and you try to assume a sight picture...and if its a "close encounter" there is going to be minimal shot pattern dispersal meaning you still have to aim), you have slow follow up shot potential (can you say heavy recoil,,,I knew you could!) and slow to reload for a follow up shot.

No thanks, I'll take my XD or my 1911 until I can fight my way back to my carbine (which I shouldn't have been seperated from in the first place).

There are a lot of dependent factors on which one.

Conditions, distances, number of attackers...

I believe a shotgun would still be the best bet for myself.
