Just found out an interesting thing to do with some of my free time today.

I opened up my CD burning program and Winamp to remix a CD collection.

I accidentally began playing Dark Side of the Moon (Disk One), on two players, one was about 8 seconds behind the other.

Really cool!  I know Pink Floyd had a reputation for mind blowing music, but hearing the audio tracks 'blended' was incredible.

I swear it was like the writers intended to listen to it like this.

He would sing a line, then a few seconds later "during a pause" the other line would be replayed as an answer.  Vice Versa.  Weird.

Gotta try this at home on a late Saturday night.

TheRedGoat

PS.  Now, If I could find a way to burn a CD with the two tracks blended/delayed.

You didn't actually spill any bong water in the process, did you Son?

Bong water plays havoc with those CDs, you know!

Now, get all set and start your copy of the Wizard of Oz to coincide where the movie turns from black and white to color, as Dorothy opens the front door of her Kansas farmhouse and looks out onto the Land of Oz!

Sit back, let your backbone slip, and enjoy!

Of course, as always, VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW!

Me?

About the Wizard of Oz, ETH.   Do I start the CD at the same moment I start the tape?

Wait, nevermind, I am sure there are instructions on the web somewhere...  ;)

BTW, this new stereo in my Honda is a Sony CA700X and it is supposed to scroll CD Text.

Anyone have an interesting string of "Text Art" that they could post?  I have been looking on the web, but I have not found anything to put in the title/artist text box.  TIA

If your into Floyd, check out the movie "Live at Pompay". Pretty cool to see them jamming in an old roman amphitheater. There is a lot of studio footage when they were recording Dark Side. Gilmore and Waters at their finest. Some of the greatest musicians ever.

This is easy.  Just download a sound recorder that can record from the (onboard) stereo mixer.

I use this one:  http://download.com.com/3000-2189-6987624.html

I like it because it is free, records everything playing through your computer, simple and small.  Please read the documentation, because there is a bug that causes people to think that it doesn't work when it does.

I record stuff into a *.wav file, and then convert to MP3 later for storage and use.

Good luck and Have fun!

It's a takeoff on Chris Kenner's 1962 song 'Land of 1,000 Dances', which was subsequently recorded by about a 1,000 artists.

The most recent version is Robbie Williams version for the movie 'The Full Monty.'

Hey, Gunrunner, notice how ETH

1.  seems to know the exact effect of bong water on CD playback
2.  the importance of the Wizard of Oz with Pink Floyd
3.  the drug overtones of "Let your backbone slip"
4.  and he is answering his own questions, answering questions nobody even asked..

Things that make you go Hmmmm....  ;)

Weed Winnowing 101, how funny!

Teacher:  "Ok class, everyone place the weed on one side of the plate.  Carefully tip the plate to 25 degrees above the horizontal... Yes, Little Eric?

LittleEric:  "My plate is room teperature, is that bad?"

Teacher:  "No Little Eric, I mean tip the plate up off the table top, like this (goes to his desk to demonstrate)"

Little Eric: "Don't steal my pot, lady!"

Teacher:  "Settle down Little Eric, nobody is going to take your pot.  You seem paranoid Little Eric, have you been doing extra credit in Reefers/Bong/Pipes 101 again?"

I first got into Floyd back "then" and they were my favourite group to groove to but now, as my "then" days are far behind me, I am a bit amazed at how much sense their music still makes to me.

Flashbacks?
Little cells giving me a refresher course when they hear certain songs?
I dunno..........

BTW.......weed winnowing 101 was one of my favourite courses in school........liked those self-paced ones better though.

Honestly, I have never listened to Pink Floyd with anything other than alcohol in my bloodstream.

I never hung out with the 'heads' in high school, but I always liked the music.

Torf,  Thanks for the link.  I am installing the software and will try to remix the Pink CD with the delay.

If you change the polarity of the little motor thingy, that makes the CD-R go spin, you can make it go backwards, and then you can hear the secret message. HONEST!

Right...but isn't it easier to just pop the cover on my CD burner and spin it backwards real fast with my finger?

If you want a real way to listen to a backward track, download a .wav/.mpg mixer and have the computer flip the track.  Somehow that makes it alot easier than reversing polarities on motor.. [;)]

TheRedGoat

PS.  I also tired putting my headphones on backwards, but that didn't work.

I had some friends who were roomates in college do that.  If they had two of the same discs, they'd synch them like that.  The trippier music, the better.  It does sound cool.

I have every piece of work they've done, seen them in concert (4) times (6) if you count Roger and Dave whitout each other.
Listened to Animals in class tonight.

"The dogs of war don't negotiate
The dogs of war won't capitulate,
They will take and you will give,
And you must die so that they may live

But wherever you go, you know they've been there before
Well winners can lose and things can get strained.
But whatever you change, you know the dogs remain."

On my first trip to Austin (no thats not a song).  I was introduced to something totally strange to this okie...

A head shop on 6th street... hahaha BONGS,WHIPS,CHAINS, fluffy handcuffs. It was wierd...  I didn't know that anybody needed that stuff.... hahahahahhahah

I really didn't know there was a market for it..

But thats just me.  Thank god for what I have left of my innocence..

Ben

EDITED TO ADD:
The closest I have ever been to being high was in the back row at a Bob Dillan concert, I could barely see the stage through all the smoke... Never touched illicit drugs of any sort..

But that is not from "Animals"!  That is the "Dogs of War" from "Momentary Lapse of Reason".

Try this:

You've got to be crazy...
You gotta have a real need...
To think on your toes
When you're on the street
Gotta be able to pick up the easy meat
with your eyes closed!

Then moving silently
Downwind and out of sight...
You've got to strike when the moment is right
Without thinking!

And after awhile...
You can work on points for style
Like a club tie
And a firm handshake
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile
You've got to be trusted
By the people that you lie to
And when they turn their backs on you...
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

That is one of my favorite Floyd songs!

I remember the Night in January of 1991 when the Bombing of Iraq was about to begin. All the indicators were in place that the bombing would start in just a few hours.

I went out and bought a bottle of Glenlivit 12 year old scotch, Got a bucket of ice and a glass and lovingly placed Pink Floyd "The Final Cut" into my CD player.

As I sipped good scotch on the rocks and punched up the " Get Your Fithy Hands Off My Desert" track on the old much loved Pink Floyd Album, I was joined on the couch by my live in girl friend of those days, who even at this late stage of the game insisted, That, all this was silly and there would be negotiations, There would be no war.

Honey, I said as I tossed back the last drops of amber liquid from the first of what would be many drinks, "They could'nt stop it now if they wanted to, It's far to late, The orders were given a couple of days ago, If the Iraqis fire their Scuds at Israel, with chemical weapons, We could see the first use of nuclear weapons since the end of World War Two, before the sun comes up tommorow."

"Your an a*shole" she said as she picked up her purse and stalked out the door to go and visit one of her girl friends...pouring anouther two fingers of Scotch in to the glass, I reflected, that, yes, I was indeed an "a*shole"

But at least she's gone now and I can listen to "Two Suns in the Sunset" drift out to me from the good old reliable Sony Cd player and my well used Advent speakers.

Oh look, there,s  tracer fire over the Al Rasid hotel.

Not a moment to soon, the warm fuzzy feeling of the scotch is just begining to kick in.
