Does anyone have some pictures of smoke coming out of a AK-47 or Ak-74 variant's handguards or some other sign of it being very overheated? I thought something like that would make a sweet background. Thanks.

Come on......with all you bump firers on the board, noone has a picture of one smoking like hell?!

there is a video out there of a guy who dumps 4 100rd drums through a full auto ak-47.  No fire, but lots of smoke.

Thanks, but I really need a picture, not a video.

It would look blurry and shit. Does anyone at all have a picture, or are they here to show me some more useless videos?

I have an SAR-1, but I don't really want to fire off as many rounds as possible ni a short period and burn the hell out of my handguards. I'm saving for an Armalite AR-180B, I don't need to be buying anything else for my SAR. Thanks.

In it, the guy begins firing 75 round drums and goes through about 3,500 rounds or so, when the wooden handguards begin smoking badly.

At about 5,000 rounds, non-stop, except for drum changes, the wooden handguards actually catch fire and fall to the ground.

After this, the guy fires the remaining 5,000 rounds using welder's nitts to hold the front end of the weapon.

There are no jams! The only problem he encounters are the burning handguards.

At the end of 10,000 rounds, they look down the barrel with bore-light and the view is shown for the camera - there is only a wisp of rifling left in the barrel.

He then loads up a final 30 round mag and begins shooting semi-auto aimed fire at five 55 gallon drums placed about 100 yards from the line.

He consistently hits the drums square in the middle!

All-in-all, very good testimony to the strength and endurance of Kalashnikov's design!

I only wish I could find someone to host the 29 second clip that I still have left of the film.

It appears to have been shot at the Knob Creek range, and a cryptic post on a German gun board called it a 'classic video' and claimed it was from 'kc'? Meaning 'Knob Creek'?

Wer weisst? [:D]

Gee...I wonder how many rounds of rapid fire I could get out of my AR before it hiccuped? [;D]

(Man...this is turning into flame bait!)

Damn, now I want an AK.

Is it true that AK mags are just as durable as the rifle themselves?

I haven't tried any destruction tests with the mags I have, but they are a lot heavier and more substantial feeling and looking than FAL, AR or SKS nondetachable mags.
I really need to get an AK.

I've got one of the SKS's that take AK mags.

Compared to AR15/m16 mags, the AK feeding devices are things of beauty.  They just "work" -- period.   The followers ride up and down like butter, and the feed lips are damn near indestructable.

But there's a cost.  They're steel, and heavy, and prone to corrosion.  They're also shaped funny, and more difficult to stow than AR/M16 mags.  Some day I'm going to do a weight comparison to show how many more fully loaded 30 round AR mags one could carry, as compared to the same weight in loaded AK mags.

Seen that new Maglight commercial, the one where this guy dropped his flashlight, then runs over it with semitruck tractor/trailer?
Try that with your AR mags [:D]

Smouldering red-hot barrels?

Shucks that's nuthin'....I can do the same thing after firing just 3 boxes of LC XM193 thru the Mini-14.

And think of all the money I saved.
