And your problem with a kid getting a prosthetic bone instead of a prosthetic leg is?

Really, this is a great story.  This little girl will grow up pretty much normally, with a biological leg, with biological muscle, nerves, etc. rather than a friggin piece of plastic, fiberglas, steel, etc. strapped on externally to a stump.

That's freakin' amazing. How the hell does that work?

Probably like a locking telescoping TV/Radio antenna.

I believe it's arranged so that passing the bone through a magnetic hoop will extend springs inside. It's otherwise stiff - so that you can actually put pressure on the limb - but will expand if so coaxed under the right conditions. It requires regular attention as she grows but is way better than losing that leg.
