I had my tailgate stolen off of my 2008 F-150 this weekend. I was at a local firemans carnival and some fucking assholes stole my tailgate. I contacted the sherriff that was working the carnival and he was in the middle of filing a report for another tailgate that had been stolen, not even a quarter mile from my truck. It was another F-150 with the same body style. It was definately a hard lesson learned. Don't take it for granted.

That is all.

Just wait until you find out the replacement cost for that little hunk of precious metal.

After you shit yourself, your anger will be bouncing off the redline.

I hate it when some ass messes with the ride!!

co-worker just had his tailgate stolen off his CK 1500.

Sucks for sure, those things likely do not go for cheap to buy a new one that is color matched to the truck.

Good news on my truck? Tailgate is broken, stupid shitty plastic handle done broke and not sure I am gonna get it fixed any time soon.

Keep it in your garage until you need it for heavy stuff and get a net for everyday use.

Oh I already looked online and figured it will be about $1500 at least. Hopefully my insurance will cover it and I will only be responsible for the deductable.

What the fuck is wrong with people? They help themselves to my stuff and I have to pay for it. It really bothers me that some fucknut scumbag was eyeballing my truck and had his dirty dick beaters all over it. I feel violated.

The reason that some tailgates have locks is to prevent the tailgate from being stolen, not to protect anything in the bed

Thats a good idea, but I doubt anyone would want to steal my tailgate, not much crime around here and all. Im not sure if Id laugh or cry if my tailgate gets stolen tonight lol.

What the hell are the doing with the tailgates?

They should deal with these thieves the same way they dealt with horse thieves in the old west.

well, my ranger's tailgate doesn't lock Oh well, I guess that's why I have full coverage insurance

You can probably buy it back off ebay.

My tailgate is bent, scratched, and ugly as shit so I don't worry too much about it being stolen. You can also put a zip tie or hose clamp around one or both of the hinges to make it more difficult to remove. You can also check into pop-n-lock, they make locking tailgate handles for many makes.

Because removing an important structural support from the bed is cool /_______\

Really? Tailgates? I don't get it...for use on other vehicles? To scrap for meth money? I've never heard of this. Seems like it would be quicker, worth more and easier (especially on a high pickup) to snatch the cat.

Shady body shops.

Tailgates are expensive, so instead of ordering a unpainted one they can send out their cronys to steal one of the color he needs for cheap.

To the OP, check on craigslist you might find it listed there for $250, lol.

I'm thinking about wiring my tailgate lock to lock/unlock with the doors. Pretty easy to do, just need to get the parts.

It's a box of sheet metal that sits on the frame.

Long ago someone stole the rear drive shaft off of his Bronco. Thank god it was a 4x4 as it was a front wheel drive for a short time.

Buddy got to work with New Chevy, coworker asked him wtf happened to his tail lights.

They got both of them (cut, not unclipped) and climbed in the bed and got the cyclops light as well. I forget the total NIW OEM, he got them off ebay a lot cheaper.

My 1986 stays in the garage.... Molon Lave my fuckin tailgate.

I rarely run a tailgate, prefer to tie stuff down. Never had an issue after more than 20 years with 3 different pickups. Course I run Fords....I know they are built solid.

Your results may vary.

A hose clamp on one side of the tail gate where it pivots will slow down if not stop anyone from trying to steal it. Did this on my F150. Not a bad idea to use Threadlocker or Loc-Tite either. Not my pic, but you get the idea...Good luck

Years ago I remember a couple of guys laughing about a trick they pulled. Two pickups the same year, different color parked at the bar.

They switched tailgates. I would be PO'd to go out the next morning and see a red tailgate on my black truck
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 6:32:14 PM EST
use a hose clamp from ace with a allen head bolt not the flat head since thats what they have to use to take it off.

Years ago, when I worked at a Ford dealer, we used to flip the hinge, I believe on the left side of the gate. You did this with the gate still on and this prevented it from being just lifted off.

Now, these were trucks up to '96 back then, so I don't know about the new trucks. Be worth a look to see if it can be done, though.

I had a gooseneck ball snap in half while hauling some cattle. My tailgate is a twisted hunk of metal. I refuse to pay the ridiculous price for a new one I'll just make it a flat bed.

First thing I buy for a new truck...
On my GMC, I had a Gatekeeper.
On my Tacoma I have a Poplock.

around here they steal your full size spare tire from under the bed, on newer full size trucks.

steal 4 from the same make/model/year, and you get a free set of new tires.

i hate crooks.

This would piss you off too.

A co-worker had every single badge/emblem on his truck pried off with a screwdriver. Had to have the entire truck repainted and pay a $500 deductible for $50 worth of emblems. His truck was brand new and didn't even have 3K miles yet.

Too bad that they weren't caught immediately and shot DRT.

Some years ago someone stole all 4 chrome valve stem caps off of my pickup

I doubt anybody wants my rusty, dented 95 Chevy 1500 tailgate.

Yeah I heard about this after the fact. When I get a replacement, I will religiously keep it locked and do the hose clamp trick.

I've been looking on craigslist and ebay, but still haven't found anything. I'm not gonna find anything either. This wasn't a job done by kids. This was definately done by somebody who knew what they were doing. I would bet my paycheck that its already been painted and sold.

I tell ya, if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

Except do it with the fastener straight down.
Do it while the tailgate is closed if you can get your screw driver up in there.

Absolutely. The COC prohibits me from saying what I would do if I ever caught those assholes.

It was really ballsy of them to take it in front of hundreds, if not thousands of people. With sherriffs and state police patroling the area.
