We finally got to pick up our new Polaris ranger Saturday. It was a 2.5 hour drive to the dealership to get it, ( 5 hour round trip ) but it was worth it. Abarnathy atv in union city Tennessee, has the best prices anywhere. I saved $2000 buying my last atv there.  We bought a Polaris ranger, 570, full size. we could have gotten a midsize for about $600 cheaper, but we wanted the extra room, to haul stuff. yesterday we had myself, my woman, her dad, two grand kids, and adult daughter in it trail riding around on back country gravel roads. we had a great time.  yes, I would have liked to have bought the 900 or 1000cc model.. but I just cant justify the payment for one. 900cc was $9500.00.   after driving this thing around yesterday, with 4 adults, and kids and a dog, and easily able to hit 40mph... I'm more than satisfied with it. its freaking awesome. no, I will not be playing in the mud with it. its strickly for getting from point a to point b.. to do work, and for hunting, and leasurely grandpa trail riding with grandkids.

out the door price for this  570 ranger was $8100.00...

this is my third Polaris. I have owned two Polaris sportsmen, and have nothing but good things to say about them. I also had a Yamaha rhino 450.... and this thing beats the hell out of that 450 rhino I had by far. way way way, faster, and 75% quieter.  we will be using this to travel from out home, to my farm, to hunt, and work, ( approx. 2 miles ).. then from the new house to my farm when we move, ( approx. 1 mile).. and to my womans, dads place to help with cows, ( approx. 1 mile).  I love that this thing will hit 50mph.... which is really nice when I have to travel down the county highway 1/4 mile, getting from one back road to another..  its really awesome. we love it !
this is a farm community, and its not unusual at all to see these traveling from farm to farm... the cops might get behind you... but if your not acting stupid, they never stop you, around here.. ( state law allows travel for 1/4 - 1/2 mile approx., on black top, traveling from property to property )

after using this thing a little bit... I can honestly say.. I will NEVER not have one.. the rest of my life.. its just awesome to have around.

upgrades.. will be.

27" tires that will fit factory wheels.. ( itp mud lights prob $300 approx. a set)
wind shield.
roof.
rear window.
soft doors, for winter driving.
3000lb warn winch
rear jump seat for kids.
orange triangle for farm vehicle
flashing strobe... to help keep from being run over.

I have a 500 ranger, also my third Polaris product.
They are great.
Enjoy it OP.

stealership wanted $900 for a 4500lb warn winch installed.

4500lb winch offline runs approx. $450 with mounting kit...

also... I love the black and green military look so much.. I'm planning to buy some old school WW II , us military style decals for it... a approx. 8" size for the hood, and smaller 5" size, one for each side.

also, buy a surplus parachute, to throw over it when we are hunting...

Hard to beat Abernathys prices, I've dealt with them since late 60's.

I only have the 450, but I have no complaints about it.   It's a good running machine, and enough power to haul firewood up and out of the woods behind me - it's a pretty steep slope too.   Plus the smaller footprint of the 450 is better for negotiating between trees in the woods
Its a work machine mostly.

Got the snow plow attachment and winch installed.   That is a very good accessory.

A windshield sounds like a good idea.  Last season I had a chance to ride in a side by side ATV when someone offered to drive me out an access road with my climber to shorten my hike in.  This particular atv did not have a windshield.  It was unseasonably cold that morning, and I can tell you the cold air flow without a windshield was bracing to say the least.  I would imagine a windshield would be nice when driving in the rain as well.

I recently picked at a deere 860I side by side, think ranger with sport seats and factory fox 2.0 shocks. I don't know how I ever lived without it lol

If your thinking of getting a half windshield or full windshield I will caution you.... they tend to pull dust into the cab (at 40-50 miles an hour you could barely breath when traveling on sand), so if you live in a dusty or desert type area you might just want to deal with the wind in your face.

You side by side guys crack me up.

You'll spend all that money for a toy......when for the same money or less, you could own a newer used Jeep.

Jeep goes everywhere that a SxS will, and it's lockable, bear-resistant, and can be driven hundreds of miles, and is cheaper in fuel.
Carries more weight, larger tires for deeper mud holes/water crossings, etc, etc.

Enjoy your "toy"....

I can ride my RZR anywhere I want to around here with the exception of main state roads and the interstate.

on a full tank (9 gallons)I can go in excess of 100 miles which is around 11 or 12 MPG that is on hard paved roads with an average speed of 40-50 mph. or a full day of trail riding.

not to mention all the areas around here that are acessable to UTV's and not Jeeps or 4x4's.

I can carry enough tools to do damn near a complete teardown on the trail in a 50 cal ammo box.

and all the jeeps/ rock crawlers I have seen in the parks are not street legal..

Install labor isn't free.  While winches with the proper brackets are easy to install, they do take a lot of time to do so... you also need to run wiring and take time making the install look as factory clean as possible.

Did your winch come with the proper dash toggle switches like the factory offerings?  Usually these cost extra.

Mine I installed myself and it was relatively easy, but I can easily see how people would gladly fork $450 over to have someone else do it.

Nice ride op! I have the 570 xp (same body as the 900). While it's no 900, the 570 is a damn fine engine and will do pretty much anything you need it to do.

Your upgrade list looks good, but I'd recommend going with a 4,500 lb winch at minimum, and a LED light bar is a must. I put a 20" on the front bumper of mine & will be adding a 50" above the windshield shortly. For bonus points you can get this switch to control your LEDs! ---->

If your buddy does not get satisfaction from Polaris right away have him contact me. This has been an on going issue for Polaris. I am the GM for a company that makes a replacement regulator for these.

+ 1000

hauling deer and gear in places a jeep wont go.

driving across soft ground that would swallow any heavier vehicle, and tear the ground up. ( low pressure tires REALLY help )

pull mowers, pull seed spreaders, pull fertilizer spreaders, spray herbicide, pull a small food plot disk, and plant food plots. drive around the yard, without leaving ruts,

my ranger is supposed to get 30 mpg... it weighs approx. 1000 lbs. has a dump bed, for dirt / leaves / mulch.

a jeep is great for a lot for things... but it cant replace a side by side for work and chores... except in a very few cases. for some reason I don't see a single farmer with a jeep... but I see tons of atv's and side by sides.

Are you reckless dumbfuck enough to put passengers in a dump bed, or did you buy a Ranger CREW?

I'm a rebel. I drove to the neighbors house 1/4 mile down the road. I also ride in the bed of the pick up when doing farm chores and riding from field to field.... ohmergerd.

Well, it's a start! I'm sure a big selling point for the little lady.

I bought a sage green 2016 900XP back in March.  I've got the plastic roof from Polaris which is kind nice.  I recommend a hard coated windshield or glass.  I've got a hard coated with top and bottom sliding vents, without airflow you will burn up.  Be prepared for a lot of dust to be sucked into the cab area.  Also if you want to save money look at Venom winches on Ebay.  I had one on my 570 Sportsman and never had a problem.  Warn is overpriced and you pay for the name.
