It is an amazing truck. I had a 2012 Raptor and IMHO this 2017 is much improved in pretty much every way.  The new engine is a HO version of the updated 3.5L twin turbo V6 Ecoboost, it feels every bit of its rated 450 HP and 510 ft lb of torque.  I anticipated that the V6 would sound bad, but it actually sounds pretty cool to me.  The ride is also a lot smoother on road and in the rough stuff than my 2012.  I've read some new Raptor owners complain that the 10 speed transmission does a lot of gear hunting, but mine shift perfectly and seems to always be in the right gear.

I just got the truck tonight and I only have about 50 miles on it, but I'll post a few updates in coming weeks as I get some high-speed dirt road miles.

...without recording it.  I'm pretty sure the 2017 is upgraded to handle 90 ft jumps, no problem.

Nice truck. Only thing I'm not a fan of on the new ones, besides the ecoboost, is the wheels.

Still a nice truck OP, congrats

Curious about the driving modes. I've heard that it's much more automated, which can be a mixed bag depending on execution. You can dial a knob for terrain without doing the multiple button dashboard dance. Rumors are that you can't do the old hooligan-style 2wd/locked diff option.

Example of the dashboard button layout for those who don't know:

Except the V8 ecoboost is supposed to be the same as in the GT500, which is not getting a ecoboost but a 7.0L N/A motor.

The 2017 has many more driving modes than the Gen 1 Raptor, but one drawback is no locked rear in true 2wd.  You can engage the rear locker in 4wd auto which acts like 2wd until the rear tires lose grip.

Baja mode is pretty cool; it keeps the turbos spooled up, even when the engine is under no load.

To the V8 lovers, I'll say that I was/am one too.  However, this engine will make you forget all about the departed 6.2L V8.  It is much more powerful at all RPM's.  Over the last 30 miles home, I actually averaged 18 MPG.  I am super impressed.

Looks cool OP. Every time I get excited about a new car I soon realize it has to much going on. I want a manual, e brake you can pull and diffs you can lock in everything else is just automated junk. I had an Audi 4k that you could lock just the rear or the rear and the front. That was bad ass.

I can have almost as much fun in 4wd +/- rear locked anyway, so that's not a big loss for my driving style. 18?! I'm lucky to be staying at 13 lifetime average.

Beautiful truck! I have a 2014 and absolutely love it. I may buy the new generation when the dealer markups have gone away, but I'm happy with what I have. Ford really did their homework during the two year absence, and everything I've seen and read about the new one sounds like they built another winner. It would take a big leap for me to want the turbo V6 over the 6.2L, being an old-school muscle car guy, but pairing it with the 10 speed sounds like a winning combination.

You're gonna enjoy flogging that thing when the engine gets broken in!

Did you know the Raptor could FLY ?

I just watched this video last night, I thought it was very interesting to see the improvements Ford made with this new chassis.... I always like the Raptor, and it is pretty impressive to see a factory vehicle launch off the dunes!

Way to go Ford!

humble brag thread/

just kidding. that is a sweet ride. I have a '14 SCAB with the ecoboost and that motor opened my eyes to what a v6 could do.  I can't imagine what 400+ hp is like. If I didn't use and abuse mine as a ranch/horse hauler truck I would get a Raptor in a heartbeat.

I've never seen a rear window like that.  I like the kind that roll down into the rear of the cab (a friend had one on a Bigfoot Cruiser).

Throw a tune in yours and you'll know what 400hp is like, I have the older model of this and it is the best $300 I've ever spent on a vehicle
