From WSJ's OpinionJournal's Best of the Web Today, 3/12/2002

The Boston Globe profiles Amber Amundson, whose husband U.S. Army Specialist Craig Amundson, died at the Pentagon on Sept. 11. Amber is now a "peace advocate":
Her Quest for Peace

"I do not like unnecessary death," she wrote to President Bush. "I do not want anyone to use my husband's death to perpetuate violence." . . .

"We want to be a voice to let the country know that not all the victims of Sept. 11 are comfortable with what has gone on in Afghanistan," she said. Amundson has . . . enlisted her brother-in-law to help her drive around the country preaching peace. She has not found a wide embrace. "When I first started, I thought, 'Isn't it obvious we shouldn't be using violent force?"' she said. "I thought everybody would say, 'Right on.'  They didn't."

Our heart goes out to Mrs. Amundson, who suffered a horrible loss. But let's get real. Her personal suffering doesn't make her views about public policy any less silly.

(A little late, but I forgot to read it yesterday.)

She is entitled to her opinion, and I am entitled to mine. For me, its "lets go kick some butts."

It's a almost a good thing her poor husband is dead.

Talk about defiling his memory.

Her husbands job was to kill people or to help other people kill people. Not only is she a bitch, she's also a hypocrite.

Did you know the guy?  How do you know he wouldn't be supporting her?

I think this woman is misguided, personally--the only thing that will prevent another 9/11 in the future is direct, violent action.  I'm still not convinced we're bombing the right people (UBL is a scumbag--we should've hunted him down long before.  On the other hand, kicking a group of thugs out of power in a country, only to replace them with a different group of thugs does not seem quite so needful to me)  but firmly believe anyone who had a hand in the WTC should be hunted down and strung up.  (IF they're taken alive, they can have a fair trial--then we'll string em up.)

I don't think that we are "using her husband's death to perpetuate violence." If the rest of us are not to be killed we have eliminate the threat. Al Qaida is not fighting for some piece of land, or denial of rights, but to kill all of the "jews and crusaders."

Just shows that being a victim doesn't automatically make you a hero.  I feel bad for her loss, but it obviously hasn't taught her wisdom.

Why do I not think this airhead widow just now "suddenly" became a "peace advocate"?

For some strange reason I think "Amber" always was a dandylion-in-the-hair-wearing, Birkenstock-toting, "all-we-need-is-love"-singing, dizzyheaded, card-carrying-liberal-peacenik who now has a lot of spare time and lot's of spare cash to spread her pathetic passivist claptrap.

"When I first started, I thought, 'Isn't it obvious we shouldn't be using violent force?"'
[puke]

We SHOULDN'T use violent force?!? WTF!?!

Hey Amber/Yoko-wannabe...

 * * * [red]News Flash[/red] * * *

We weren't using violent force against Al Qaeda BEFORE 9-11!!

What the f*ck did THAT buy us BAETCH?! [pissed]

Victim impact is usually not given that great of weight in a trial.

George Orwell said to European pacifists during WW2: "Pacifism is objectively pro-fascist." Meaning, of course, that once an enemy has resigned itself to your destruction or conquest, any expression of pacifism directly aids his cause.
Admunson would do well to heed that advice. Islamofascists, our enemy today, directly benefit from her statements and actions. And in doing these things, she betrays her husband's cause - the defense of our nation. She also expresses a lack of gratitude to those soldiers now fighting to prevent more people like her husband from dying.

She is profoundly selfish, and myopic. Like most pacifists are.

Very sad, any way you look at it.

Well, I for one hope that she's not cashing any of the benefit checks she's receiving for being the widow of active armed service personnel!

It would be so hypocritical of her to do so!

Quick, check her bank statement!

Well, it's unclear from your post just who it is you think we should be bombing!

Personally, I favor bombing Saudi Arabia, but 5subslr5 says we can't - they're our allies!

I never would have guessed that!

It's pretty nice to go 15 for 19 in the way of terrorists, and still come out smelling like a rose!

Pardon me, the rose is not a good analogy, it might be better to say 'come out smelling like patchouli.'

Reminds me of those queers in the Village in NYC who protested and hosted nightly protests.  I went to see one and all I can say is that I now understand why my father hates the hippy type.  What a f*cking waste of American resources on these "peace" advocates.

Do they think this country was founded on peace???!!!!

I don't know who the right people are--it COULD be the afghans.  All I said was I wasn't convinced. (On the other hand, I found the evidence against UBL to be compelling enough.)
