(Reuters) - Penn State has settled the bulk of claims by child sex abuse victims of Jerry Sandusky in a major step to move beyond a scandal that cost millions and upended a once legendary football program, the university said on Monday. The university has agreed to pay $59.7 million to 26 men in the wake of the Sandusky's conviction in June 2012 for abuse, Penn State said on its website. Claims from six other men who said the former assistant football coach abused them as children have been rejected or may result in possible settlements, the school said. "We hope this is another step forward in the healing process for those hurt by Mr. Sandusky, and another step forward for Penn State," University President Rodney Erickson said in a statement. "We cannot undo what has been done, but we can and must do everything possible to learn from this and ensure it never happens again at Penn State," he added should of never happened in the first place! there is a special place in hell for jerry sandusky, joe paterno and the rest of the scum who allowed this to happen! |

The check will say Penn State, but the parents and students will be footing the note. Tuition just went up folks.

Not likely. The football program has been netting $50,000,000+ annually. While it's a lot of money, it's not going to drive tuition up, especially after it increased last year.

What was done was unspeakably evil, not just by Sandusky, but also those who lacked the moral courage to do something. It is hard to put a dollar amount to what was endured by his victims.

If they want to punish the football program they should just make every game against Ohio State.

The judge must be a Penn State fan that is nothing.
In fact just money wise anything under $250,000,000 is jack for Penn State. They should have shut down the football program for at least 10 years, the players could have transferred to other schools. |

Jerry Sandusky should burn in hell...... the hierarchy at Penn State should be jailed and stripped of all possessions.
BUT, I'm sick and tired and feel terrible about what was done to Joe Paterno..... he was a scape goat..... a face that we could recognize and hate...... and this was done by the powers that be at Penn State to take the heat off themselves. Paterno had a legally binding contract...... there was a chain of command that he was to follow or he would have went outside the parameters of that contract. He did what he was suppose to do. What he was required to do. He told his superiors what was going on.... he fulfilled is obligation. The only other thing he could have done was call a press conference, pound the podium and demand that the school officials " do something". He then would have been open to a lawsuit, would have lost everything. I wonder how many here would have done that? How many here would have thrown everything away? He was the football coach..... not the President of the University, not a VP ( who he notified), not in a position of power to do much. This shit hastened his death and he died a sorrowful hurt man...... he deserved better..... from the University and from " the system". |

If he would have gone public, he would have been screwed. He didn't have power of arrest. He couldn't shoot Sandusky. The only thing left for him to do was go outside of his contract, call a press conference and go public. Paterno was fairly far down the ladder..... but, he was the RICH successful football coach so they threw him out there. Pathetic. |

As far as your other comment, fantasizing that Paterno was a pedophile is pretty sick. If he was, I am sure we would have had a line of children/parents lined up to get their payday too. Like I said, Paterno was WAY down the chain of command. I'll say this, I have always thought there were more people involved in this ...... more pedophiles out there involved with Sandusky. I think that is why an investigation was put off for YEARS..... that's right, they knew for YEARS. |
