Peace Corps Volunteer Gets Her Throat Slit When She Blows Whistle on Child-Abusing Employee

Very sad.

This agency is truly a waste of time and of naive, trusting young women whose idealism trumps their street smarts. I work for the fed.gov and we cringe when we see the words "Peace Corps" on a resume. It means, usually, that the candidate is a moonbat liberal who thinks the world owes her a living. Just abolish the damned agency and give the money back. A tremendous waste that could be better handled by private individuals and agencies.

I could never suggest to anyone to do work with them.

The article is a real eye opener.

Mind you, none of this is news to me.

I don't care about the Peace Corps one way or the other, and I suspect that the people who are drawn to it are, as you say, naive and deficient in reality contact, but I also suspect that they are the kind who feels they owe something to the world rather than the other way around.

sonds like your experience is different than mine, so I want to offer a counter example.

I have a buddy who went to school for physics and math. Got two Bachelor degrees. Joined the Peace Corps and spent his full tour in Malawi. Malawi really sucks. Then he got a job at a national lab, running the country's largest particle accelerator. While he was there he got interested in triathlons; I trained him for the cycling portion (he finished in the upper quarter of his age group at Lake Placid).

Then he started taking classes again. Went to med school. (I bought him a full-sized plastic skeleton for his going away present.) Paid for two years of med school from money he saved at work. Joined ROTC and became an Army doc about a year before 9-11. Spent several years sewing up soldiers and children in Iraq. Did the full ROTC obligation. Now Back safe in the USA, doing his internship at a major Chicago area hospital.

He's a very very nice guy, but I wouldn't call him a lib, and I sure wouldn't say that he thinks the world owes him a living.

A very conservative friend of mine served in the Peace Corps in the 1970's. He helped a ton of people out and never regrets his time spent.

The problem I have, however, is that everything, and I mean everything, should be cut to the bone in order to preserve funds for the military and border protection. Everything else is fluff that we seriously can't afford as a nation now, including the Peace Corps. Of course, this all falls on deaf ears........................................................

Feel sorry for the girl and her family. Rest in peace.

I've personally met 2 former Peace Corps volunteers in my lifetime. BOTH of them has massively inflated self-importance complexes - they were simply better than everyone else. YMMV.

The Peace Corps is a Cold War relic, designed to wean away the hearts and minds of the supposedly clueless Thrird World from the embracing arms of Soviet Communism. We won. It's over. We don't need it anymore. Anybody who can do good with it can also do just as well as a private individual or working for NGOs.

I certainly will not, but the Peace Corps, being a fed. agency, its first job is self-preservation. You would think it would be because they want to fulfill their mission, but I have seen too much stupid in my time to believe that anymore.

The agency SHOULD prepare and protect all the people in its care, but only the most naive and idealistic seem to be the ones that apply. They depend on clueless moonbats to people their ranks, and then sacrifice them on the altar of political correctness.

A young, wealthy white woman will be welcomed as an equal in a Muslim village in a shithole in Africa. She will be respected. Riiiight.

And then the agency fears the cries of racism if they prosecute the perps.

I don't know why we bother anymore.

Other people, i.e., you and I, pay the students loans. They are NOT "forgiven".

Also, you get preference for hiring for fed. gov jobs, on a par with mil. veterans. I've seen too many of both in my time who view .gov civilian service as a hammock of entitlement.

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer and I am now a .gov employee working for one of ARFCOM's favorite three-letter agencies. I am not a "moonbat liberal" and never was. "Right-wing Patriot" is probably a better label. While in Peace Corps, I worked on a road and bridge project in Nepal as part of a multi-national effort. My secondary project was working with clean drinking water systems in villages.

What good did it do? Well;

-Maybe one less mother has to watch her baby shit itself to death from drinking contaminated water.
-I learned how and under what conditions most of the World lives and just how precious essential Liberty really is and that the U.S. is the greatest nation ever on Earth!
-and maybe, just maybe, the next time the local Maoist militia preaches the evils of the "American Imperialist Dog" someone will think to for themselves "Gee, the American who lived in our village was nothing like that. Maybe the U.S. isn't really the Great Satan".

Now, I know many on ARFCOM love to hate Peace Corps. I am not really sure why but I suppose having "Peace" in the name doesn't sound tough enough for all the keyboard commandos who have never actually gone anywhere or done anything even remotely adventurous but whatever, I am proud of my service and I have led a very interesting life.

Similar, Have a buddy that went Peace Corps. He latter became a Navy pilot flying F18s did about 4 or 5 ME cruses. Got out went reserve and now works as a Civil Engineer designing water/sewage systems for 3rd world countries. Not bad for an immigrant kid from India who when he got here at 14 could not speak English.

It's a shame that no one was able to talk her out of joining that bullshit.

A few years ago there where 3 young girls passing out fliers around town.
I happened to look at the flier and they were trying to raise money so they could go biking through Kenya passing out literature of some sort.
Mind you this was right around the time that the global media was reporting mass genocide in Kenya.
Anyway I caught up to them and explained that they slaughter their own people for no reason what so ever down there and that three pretty white girls would be raped and tortured until dead.

I asked them to do a little more research on the area before they decide to go through with the mistake.

Don't know if they ever went or not but the fliers were all gone the next day.

Most people just don't understand how fuct up the world really is.

Its not just the peace corp that you can make this assumption about, a sister of a friend went to Africa a couple years ago as a missionary, she was given a "rape briefing" before she left. The graphic nature and detail of it left no doubt that it was a common occurrence. Fortunately she was not the victim of a rape while she was there but she was there only six months and refused to go back, was sent to India instead. I dont care if it is the peace corp or a religious organization, sending a 18-30 year old women to a utter shithole with no way to defend themselves is insanity.

Seriously, I do think their idealism blinds them to the realities of the world.

I don't care about the Peace Corps one way or the other, and I suspect that the people who are drawn to it are, as you say, naive and deficient in reality contact, but I also suspect that they are the kind who feels they owe something to the world rather than the other way around.

Oh, and in before The-Stupid-Liberal-Cunt-Got-What-She-Deserved crowd.

I've personally met 2 former Peace Corps volunteers in my lifetime. BOTH of them has massively inflated self-importance complexes - they were simply better than everyone else. YMMV.

CMOS

So?

His anecdote trumps your suspicion.

His epic failure at inductive reasoning doesn't trump shit.

libtard or not, she was a human being doing a moral obligation to report abuse of those who could not OR don't realize they do not have to endure.

i will also add, she was doing something of her life (i will add of a positive nature) verses someone sitting on a computer and offering an armchair opinion (insert Man in the Arena)

seems to me, peace corps needs to have an investigation, to also include restricting funding to ensure full cooperation, until a full and final review of circumstances are released (to also include how peace corps handles the processes for all the other abuses us citizens abroad have incurred - up to 22 a year).

Wow... so working for a multi-billion dollar company that builds hospitals and needs my work to get the job done is not "doing something with my life"....as well as raising my daughter to be ethical and honorable.... And that same company that I work for donates large sums of money and time DIRECTLY to local charities that help the poor, sick and dying right here in Georgia... And I help with those efforts too...

So I need to go help a bunch of uncivilized animals to actually "do something with my life"

I will just say go <COC Violation> yourself.

Well, that's one of those things. In my world, there three types of people on the good side. There are those who don't know about how bad the world is, there are those who are forceably introduced to it and want to return to that state before, and then there are people like me (intel, police) that swell here. Mind you, of course, there are those on the fringes who might be blends, such as the people who think they know, think they are dwellers, and are not really.

I'm not sure that people should be forced to know how bad the world can be. Sure, there may be lots of advantages to knowing it, and some disadvantages as well. A whole nation of hardened, somewhat insensitive, cynical loners like me is probably not necessarily a good thing.

Besides, if in anything else, a world full of people like me would make it tougher for me to do some of the jobs I do because they would have hardened defenses for me to try to get through when I have to use some of my psychology tactics.

Now just as an aside, not to piss anyone off or anything, does anybody know anyone, who has joind the peace corps, or any like organization, that has had any LASTING effect?

I mean does it work?

I would be surprised, but I am small townish, and it makes me so sad to see these good hearted people get raped, murdered and what not trying to help the underprivileged folks in these shit holes that can't seem to learn that when they keep pro-creating kids that they can't feed their situation will never get better.

But let's keep the free handouts going on, while our country gets closer to becoming just like them.

Sad and stupid.

After reading some of the related stories on that page, they should rename the Peace Corps the Rape Corps.

The peace corps needs more people like Tom Tuttle from Tacoma, Washington....

Or you could sit around and say "the liberal cunt got what she deserved" as two or three in this thread have without knowing a motherfuckiing anything about her political views.

No one should have to suffer like these women after an event like that. Sounds like the Peace Corps management needs some weeding and the orientation a dose of reality.

Further, the countries and especially the local officials need to be held accountable. I'm not sure how much leverage the Peace Corps might have, other than monetary and project cancellation, but they need to step up and stop blaming the victims and sweeping the problems under the rug.

Perhaps the military could "loan" a few spec ops operators to occasionally accompany the ladies and other volunteers and once in a while pay a night time "visit" to one or two people who need some "training".

Or maybe they need their own reaction group to attend to these "problems". First action should be some much needed counseling for the victims and I don't mean a meeting with a manager to discuss what the person had done that was "wrong".
