If I can't add all of the gas/credit/debit/loyalty cards I use regularly, Passbook is useless to me. Are there any apps that actually work for this purpose?

Keyring works well for loyalty cards.

I'm an Apple fan and think it sucks as well. Great idea with utterly no practical use so far.

Give it time.  It's the wave of the future and soon we will all be using something similar to that concept.

Interesting. How secure is it?

I think it's pretty secure. The thing about it I like is - I can use my CC without having to allow people to handle it, scan it, or make an impress of it.

I've only used it a couple times, but it seems to work just fine.

I'm sure Passbook is secure, but I still wouldn't put a debit card in it. Stick to credit cards. All of my Amex, Chase, and USAA credit cards work just fine with Passbook and Apply Pay. Also works great with my hotel cards like Hilton, SPG, and IHG. Hotel reservations automatically get added as well. I think it works great for what it's designed for.

Keyring works great for silly store cards like Kroger, MyLowes, etc.

Im not having issues with my CC''s on PB for the most part, but my gas cards and many loyalty cards are no-go. I like the idea of having this available if I forget my wallet, etc. I (sort of) trust the idea of Passbook and the fact the data is stored solely on my phone and the perceived security of Touch ID and Apple Pay, so I'd prefer to use PB exclusively. So far, it's not tits.

Google Wallet seems to work pretty well. They even send you a debit card.

Which "Keyring" app? There are a bunch by that name on play.google.com...

ETA: There are a bunch named "Passbook," too...

Passbook is preinstalled on iPhones, it isn't available for Android.

The KeyRing app you want looks like this:
