I have been told that there is no way a military vehicle whip from any era, for example the AS-3900/VRC series, can be used with any civilian band radio, nor can it be adapted. Is this true, or is there some way to do it that doesn't require you to be an electrical engineer. I understand the difference in predefined wavelength and frequencies that the military whips use are different by design, but it just seems like there would be some way to have a frequency conversion unit or modulator attached that would allow something like that.

Or are they right? My Buddy is an old 37 Foxtrot and he says it can't be done.
