My only question for the SIG 9mm fans:
Why is that pistol so HEAVY ?
32 ounces EMPTY. That's a chunk of CCW there.
Havent those folks  heard of Aluminum by now ?

They frame is made of alloy.. I think its more of the size of the slide than anything.  IIRC cz75, which has a steel frame, is almost as light if not lighter.  Sig is a more polished gun from the factory though, but I think there are much better CCW options out there.  It would make a great duty or bedside gun though.

Slide is solid milled stainless. I'm guessing that's a little heavier than tenifer coated pot metal.

I switched to a 239 because I like the trigger, but those glocks weigh a lot less.  The g32 is much lighter and holds more boolits.  I do, however, like flat spare mags in the sig p239.

Same mag capacity, just a stainless slide and newer extractor (and slightly different mags now on the E2 version).

The P229 has been around a long time in 9mm or .40.

A real M11 is a P228 with the folded slide and in 9mm only.

Has internal parts treated but P228 does not.  Same 13 round mag capacity in the M11/P228 and a standard 9mm P229.

The real M11/P228 is a good bit lighter than a P229, but I am not sure they make P228s any more except maybe a run here and there for the military as an M11.

If you are thinking of the M11-A1, yeah, that is built on the P229 but is not really an M11.  It does, however, carry 15 rounds and has the internal parts treated like a real M11.

This regular P229 is, in my opinion, closer to a P228/real M11 than the M11-A1 except for the stainless slide on the P229.

Link Posted: 1/28/2014 3:38:33 PM EDT
I am thinking about this, but I already have 2 P228s with 1 on them being NIB.

Yeah I am talking A1.  Sig site says mag cap on 229 is 10 or 13 for 9mm. M11-A1 is 15.

I added more info.

I am torn on the M11-A1 as I would really rather have a real M11.  My 2 P228s are close with the only real difference being the lack of treatment of the internal parts on the P228.

Apparently Sig had an overrun, once upon a time, of real M11s so they got stamped M11B.  Those are real M11s but very hard to come by and the owners usually want big bucks.

The M11-A1 uses a 15 round mag.  I think that will work in a P228 or P229 but will stick out.

The 13 round mags are too short to lock up in the M11-A1.

I'm seriously thinking about it, I love me some Sig goodness. Since this is a carry piece, I couldn't justify spending a grand on something theta would see wear and dings and what not.

With that "E" grip, does it take the same mags as my P228?  I couldn't tell from the above discussion.  I thought the E-grip firearms required a different magazine.

Folded carbon steel.  Much lighter and there are a ton of M11s still in use that indicates that the method and material work just fine.

Don't get me wrong.  This is a hell of a deal on a hell of a gun.

I don't even know anymore. SIG has always shipped the P228 and P229 with 13rd mags, even though flush-fit 15rd mags have been around forever.

The M11-A1 use the frame that the .40 P229 uses, and has a newer, slightly thicker, magazine. Looks SIG ships the P229-1 with 13rd mags and the M11-A1 with 15rd mags for some reason. The 13rd mags should still fit in the M11-A1 and lock up fine, but the older P228 and original P229 versions will rattle a little bit because that newer frame is slightly wider on the inside.

According to Top Gun Supply, the newer E2 P229 should use 15rd mags and there doesn't seem to be a 13rd version, but SIG lists the capacity as 13rds on their website still.

I'm not really sure what the fuck they have going on now.

Not sure as it has the same capacity.

I know the M11-A1 mags are different due to 15 rounds, but I believe I have heard that even the 13 round mags are different.  I don't know for sure.
