Guess they were a little off, huh

Anyone catch how many really died?
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 2:43:51 PM EDT
They only counted some people as 1/3rd.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 2:44:30 PM EDT
cannibals got most of 'em.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 2:46:25 PM EDT
DU thinks it is a conspiracy that they are putting tarps up and shielding the dead from the cameras. They think that there is 10,000 and the feds are trying to make it look like 1,000 or less.

Of course if the tarps weren't up blocking they would say that it was disrespectful to show the dead on TV (which it is) and bitch too.

Nagin blamed Bush for the lower than expected death count. No really, he did.

reality check, people die in natural disasters.

I haven't seen any hard numbers mentioned. I think it will be a long time before anyone releases a reliable count.

I dont have the report in fromt of me, but last I heard they had around 750 bodies.

750 dead.

Still very sad.

Free...do you think more will die because of the sewer water these people were exposed too? Is there areas where the ground is still under water and people still refuse to leave?
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 3:55:53 PM EDT
Probably all of those people who had a "D" after their name on the voting rolls. None of them managed to show up at evac centers or have been found by the authorities, so they must be dead. Tragic.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 5:45:28 PM EDT
Well, then I guess all those dead people will be voting in the next election . . .

CMOS

OK; here's the question(s):
1. how many deaths are directly attributable to the hurricane?
2. And how many people died of natural causes, in other words would have died anyways?

If the normal # of deaths/week in NO was, let's say, 100, then you should subtract that from the total reported which would bring it down even more.

They'd have bodies stacked like cordwood if the numbers were anywhere near 10K. Nagin is full of s**t. But we knew that from day one.

Ok..... now that the press is trying to minimize the images of the damage.... Boddies are in the forest, swamp... you name it. They still find them every day in houses..... The numbers will be 9 to 10K total, but they need to keep the total honest and count the entire affected area. NOT just the NO city proper.

The national press is fuc&^% slanted in their reports.... It makes me sick. StBenard parrish is a wasteland..... It is all gone..... 12 feet of water moving at 5 knots in .... then back out. Slab homes floated. There are beds in the trees. The ghosts know where the boddies are. There are even two dead horses still in the streets. Picture the nuke test video of the houses taking a early test.... shingles all blown off and leading wall down... take away the fire, and rads, then add eight inches of silt..... and park your neighbors shed in your front room just for shits and giggles...... These people have no reason to return home.

This is brought to you from NOLA, and I was in StBernard Parish at sun down.

What ever the number...natural selection is rad!
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 9:06:43 PM EDT
I told my girlfriend that the number would be below 900, when the idiot mayor said 10,000.

I work in EMS and a co-worker just got back from a two week stint down there with disaster relief. He says that the 10,000 death figure came because bodies were seen everywhere. However, the ones who made that estimate forgot that the cemetaries are all above ground and when the floods come, the bodies all washed out. My co-worker would find bodies that were perfectly preserved because of the formaldahyde and it was obvious that the body had been dead for years. There are thousands of bodies laying around, but only a fraction of them were killed by Katrina.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 10:55:58 PM EDT
The other 9,000 are probably people that merely exist on paper as voters and recipients of governemnt checks. Or at least that seems to be how things work in NO.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 11:00:02 PM EDT
I would assume that most people would have died in their homes or some other building. Therefore it will take a door to door search to find all of the dead bodies.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 11:20:53 PM EDT
The other 9,000 dead people will vote for the Democrat in the next election.
Link Posted: 10/3/2005 7:08:32 AM EDT
Realistically? 1500 probably. 750 is the confirmed number, but there are likely still quite a few bodies that haven't been inventoried.

Most died from flooding, dehydration, lack of food, and disease. I bet the number of people that died DIRECTLY from the hurricane is well under 100.

So sad, an orderly evacuation would have almost made this a non-event.
