No we don't.  We have a government in power that you don't like and I don't like, but they aren't dictators.

What do you call it when that government brands the opposition party a terror group and tries to punish its voters for their support.

No legislation but the collective action that is taking place particularly trying to persecute people who attended the Jan 6 rally (not the entering of the capital).  Silencing of most of the opposition voice.  Actions inside the military now to "stamp out extremism".  I know people suspended from work for 4 weeks without pay based on unsubstantiated claims of participating in the Jan 6 event.

Which is undoubtedly wrong, but is being done by private individuals, social media and companies.  The actions inside the military are a whole lot of nothing according to the military folks I know. Just more shitty PowerPoint presentations in their future.

3,2,1 until the Turtle makes a phone call to Chuck the schmuck Schumer where he tells Chuck that you will have our full support in confirming Garland as long as you tell him to crawl up Trumps ass and the asses of his entire family.  He also tells Chuck that the repubs would not be opposed to the AG's of several liberal loon states to open up fishing expeditions into all things Trump.

I think Corporo-Fascism-Oligarchy would be more the operative word. The USSC pretty
much sealed that today. Now, let's just see how far H.R. #1 goes, and how much
political capital they spend to get it enacted. Once, and if, it gets enacted & USSC
gives it their blessing, we'll see just what we dissolve into after this post-Constitutional
Republic dies off.

That government that you & I don't like? I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but they
ain't going to let those reins slip out of their hands..... Ever.

I just don't agree.  I think it's incredibly defeatist to believe that our system of government is broken to the extent that some people believe it is. The government itself is screwed up, bureaucratic and freedom-limiting, but it is not a dictatorship.  The reality is that there are more and more people that differ with you and I regarding some very basic principles. Unfortunately, we are on the losing side of demographics and changing attitudes and ideals.  Nothing is going to reverse that, but it doesn't mean that we are living in a dictatorship, it just means that we are losing at the polls. The solution is to figure out a winning coalition.  The way to lose is by using the Republican Party as a battering ram.

The losing end of a demographic is by design.  Changing attitudes?  Try socialism.  We keep running candidates against literally Santa Claus.  Importing people from other countries as fast as we can isn't helping and is a traditional position of the old republican party.  If we keep doing things the same way will keep losing.  Better to burn the party down and rebuild it with a smaller tighter control.  I don't see any broad coalition working out.

Watching the dems just go absolute apeshit trying to find something, anything, to charge him with, has pretty much proven to me that he is a far better man than I ever could have imagined.

If he was 1/1millionth as evil and corrupt as they claim, they would have found something in 2015 to take him out.

I’m not sure, but isn’t this what leads to dictatorship?

What's the GOP's platform without Trump? They're largely in agreement with Biden on trade, immigration and foreign policy. The Bush Republicans and "national security conservatives" actually endorsed Biden. Meanwhile the "principled conservatives" like Ted Cruz are both unpopular and useless. They promote some bizarre set of libertarian values while not doing anything about the socialist taxes, laws, subsidies, a massive standing military and of course not ever touching entitlement spending.

Trump says he wants to protect industry, renegotiate trade and pull back from foreign conflicts and the GOP had no response in 2016. They still don't.

In one fashion or another, yes. I think the genie's far too out of the bottle to contain it now, and no matter what, the outcome's going to be interesting. The standing government has failed, and is no longer viewed as legitimate by many on the left or the right. Disillusioned leftists have fallen into favor of communism or anarchy, and disillusioned right wingers have fallen into fascism or anarchy. It's a goof troop idea that the same assclowns that have ruined the country for decades are going to pull it back up by the bootstraps, so long as ronald blumpf doesn't come along and put a wrench in their gears. If the hyperinflation that the PM bugs warn about in every thread does actually hit, it'll be off to the races.

This line is what made my BS detector start beeping.

“Chief obsession” just doesn’t sound like a real statement.

However, I think Trump has everything to gain by being somewhat public at this point. Why look like a bitch and go out with a whimper when you could be a constant, living reminder to the political class that middle America is not onboard with the fuckery in this country?

No, it just means that the country is changing in a way that you don't like. We are still a representative democracy. Unfortunately, that system of government (like any system relying on voting) has a group of people that win at the polls and take control of the government and one or more groups that lose at the polls.  The difference is that the current winners can be removed the next election cycle if the currently losing group gets their shit together and convinces enough people to vote for them the next time. That is different than a dictatorship, which requires tanks and explosions to change a government.  Of course, if you believe a pillow salesman and a crazy lawyer, then it's game over because the fix is in.

The political earth has shifted under your feet and somehow you missed it. The good old two party system you pine for has been an illusion for at least a couple of decades. As of this past election, the Democrats and Uniparty have made it official.

If his record confirms one thing, it's that as 'vengeful' as Trump supposedly is, he doesn't ever burn shit down or take strategic action to solve problems.  Hate to say it but the man may be genuine (that's what I've come to realize) but his methods/tactics are pure pettiness.

Otherwise he'd have destroyed Twitter, for example.

Since 4 years obviously wasn't enough for the RINOs to get the message, then MAGA just needs to keep on doing what it's doing.

The Republican Party needs a purge, but it's not gonna be the MAGA wing that hits the door.

You don't beat the Democrats by pretending to be a Dem-Lite and winning a few wishy-washy middle morons. You win by getting the blue collar vote. Trump knows this.

If we ever have fair elections again (that's a big if), that is the *only* way that the Republicans will ever win again, because the MAGA wing won't show up for another Romney-esque candidate again.
