I smashed a finger so hard once I squirted blood in my face and lost my nail. Took a month or so to get it back. I was loading logs into a mechanical splitter and dropped a large log on my finger against the metal surface of the machine. It was the second worst pain I ever felt (the worst was when I burned my hand on very spicy-hot AND boiling salsa. Double whammy.)

If your finger nail is smashed drill a hole in it. Find a very small drill and do it. It will let the blood out. I does help. This is from someone who owns a Garand.
If you don't have a drill you can heat up a needle and burn a hole. |

800mg Ibuprofen. Ice until numb, drill small hole in fingernail. Its been awhile since I did something that stupid, so I am probably due, but thats what I try to do when it happens to me. When the pain starts shooting up your forearm after you can feel your hand again, you know you done good.
 The worst part for me is immediately after the big hit. You KNOW you just did something very bad..... but the pain hasn't kicked in yet. Bonus points for tingly feeling. Then the tidal wave comes over and the tears start to form.

Just man-up and deal with it. That kind of pain does not bother me much after getting hit in the face with steam from a hot radiator. Now thats pain.
