First let me say it was a waste that I could not find a way to have this preserved and I did try.

I found this yesterday morning on side of US 29 in Nelson Co. Virginia.  Evidentally hit by a vehicle. The only way this can be preserved (stuffed) is by a permit to a learning institution per the Game Warden. I tried to call the local Nature Conservancy on Christmas Eve with no luck. It's frozen stiff still and not damaged as far as I can tell other than being dead.

I see stuff like this all the time being a Highway worker.

Happy Holidays!

Barred Owl. The Real "Hoot Owl".

I will tomorrow, hoping the Conservancy people will call tomorrow  after they return to work and hear my phone message and or see the email I sent them.

I read the lifespan on these birds can run 23 years.

And the owl is to the night what the hawk is to the day.

Totally awesome!

Still a waste though.

I had a owl fly through the window of a truck I had back in the late 80`s.  Those birds can do alot of damge to a truck. believe it or not.
