what did it smell like? I have always been curious. Burning flesh is a very distinct smell, something I'd not recommend that people experience. |

Just another morning here in the greater Memphis area.............

Fire Dept said it is not being treated as a homicde? So somebody was just making a funeral pyre for somebody that died of natural causes? Body could have been placed within 36hr period? Sure then somebody else set it on fire....

Takes me right back to my childhood in the 1970's! And a body in a burning dumpster is most likely no accident either. |

The phrases, "Burnt beyond recognition" and "isolated incident" in the same story always freak me out!
what is it that makes it smell so bad? is it the protein like in decomposing bodies?
In the Lifestyle Channel I thought this was funny. |
It definitely was a homicide, unless a homeless man killed himself, dragged his body to the dumpster and then set himself on fire.
In that order. The phrase around campus right now is "DON'T PANIC!" [On the plus side: I am helping one of my neighbours buy his first firearm this week. ] |

Talk about a rough morning. It could have be rougher, the OP could have been Mr. BBQ. |

how the hell can they say its not being treated as a homicide?!

Quoted: Time to move! Doesn't matter 10 or so years ago a drug dealer was dumped in the lake behind a small nicely mowed vacant lot where my school bus stop, I used to fish and swim there all the time the house next door guess they owned it fenced it off right after. a couple middle school girls found him and not us b/c it was still dark while we were there. Don't know where he was killed at and i cant remember if the cops even found out. So basicly no where is safe from crazy shit like that. |

But, if the person died in a fire, but wasn't burned/chard, it has a smell (and look) similar to baked ham. |

Too lazy to drag it across town before burning it, weren't you?
BTW, what was his screen name? |
Authorities are telling people not to panic. They hope this is an isolated incident. Fire officials said the case is not being treated as a homicide yet.
